10th villager slot question?

As simple as I can put it:

My mum recently started playing again, and has Elise - who is now moving. I have visited her town and she has visited mine. Now, I have my 10th slot open and I want to convince a personality I don't already have to move in (I don't want Elise basically). So my question is:

Would I need to physically invite Elise to my town for her to move or is there a possibility of her moving in to my town anyway? I've never spoke to her before.

Unless she'd already moved out when your mom visited your town, I think you're safe. Make sure you get someone else to move in before your mom comes to your town again after Elise is gone, just to be sure.

Like, consider this scenario:

Say you visit a town where a villager is in boxes, and then someone else visits that same town and asks the villager to move to your town. If the villager goes to both that person's town and yours, then there's two of them, and it doesn't work that way. There's only one who moves somewhere else.

Ah - I realized there can't be two of them. I meant when she moves, would it be possible for her to appear in my town days later? Though I think I'll be safe?

I'm pretty sure your tenth villager is up to your choice only. The first nine villagers move in randomly (or by choice too if you're quick)

She can definitely move in to your town even if you haven't talked to her. Make sure to get a tenth villager before you visit your mother's town again, or else this is a possibility!

Should I TT until I get a camper who I can ask to move in before she leaves her town? or am I OK as long as I don't visit until then?

You'll be fine as long as you and your mother don't visit each other's towns until you get someone else to move in.

The 10th villager is not always by choice. The only ways you can get a 10th villager are:

1. If you invite them in yourself from someone else's town when they're moving out. Just visiting when they're in boxes will not cause them to move into your town.
2. Streetpass. Watch out for this one because it seriously sucks when a streetpass villager moves in when you're saving a space for someone else...
3. Wi-fi connection. After Elise moves out, if you visit her town or she visits yours, there is a chance for you to get Elise. I'm not sure how high the likeliness is for it to happen, but it happens to me a lot so I'm going to say it's kind of high. If she visits someone with 10 villagers already, her void should clear.
4. Campsite. You have to invite them in though, sometimes it's really tough to get them to agree to move to your town.
