Having a similar problem... all 3 of my villagers have moved in, so I thought it was safe to go to the islands again. Nope, still nothing. I have now placed my campsite and construction is done.. anyone know if it's safe NOW or do I have to wait another day?

There is still a small bit of hope that versions of ACNH from different regions may have different game IDs and therefore count as different games to the switch system, but with holidays being downloaded instead of native to the game cart, I am not hopeful.

I don't think there are maps like you describe; there were different maps shown in the Japanese version of the direct, but all 8 maps had two river mouths into the ocean with the Plaza located in between. I'm sure you can end up with a pretty straightforward map with maybe the two river mouths...

I figured these would be locked; do you think that river sources and exits will be locked in as well? That would change what I am looking for in a map. I would like to have more developed and less developed area of my island, and so I figure I might have to reset to get my dock/plaza/airport...
