As evil as she is, I've always thought Ursula was decently fair. After all, Ariel had the choice to decline her offer right from the start, and originally, Ursula was to be Triton's sister, banished for her facination with magic, which wasn't all that nice considering their relationship would most likely be fine if he had accepted her as she was.
