The main thing that makes colouring stand out is the shading I think~ I shade first with a REALLY soft brush like an airbrush tool if you have that and i just shade very vaguely, like for example for skin the top of the face, the neck, ect, then I use a harder brush like a pen tool for more precise shading like under the eyes, nose, lips and i blend parts of that out with the watercolour tool in SAI (but you could also use a blur or smudge tool probably). Hope that helps ^^;
