    You set the layer to screen or linear dodge to get rid of the black background.

    For lighting, I just use a soft brush at 200~300 pixels (white). I then set the adjustment layer to soft light at 70~80 opacity. I also use lens flares.

    Aaaaaand I use the burn tool to darken the sides to put emphasis on the focal point (light source).
