try watching a few anime shows or listening to some jpop??? idk it might help you pick up some phrases once in a while

Okay.
When you get to reading, I'd recommend Dr Moku's Hiragana and Katakana app. It helped me to learn the full Hiragana alphabet in less than a day. Katakana took a week or so.
