Gifted item from villager not appearing in inventory

The last two days, one of my villagers has had the thinking emote and when I spoke to them, they had the conversation about 'I bought two of these' and gifted me an item. In both cases it was a dotted raincoat. However, when I go into my pockets/inventory, the item has not been there either time. This is not a bug I have encountered before. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not fussed about the raincoats but I don't want it to be a sign of a bigger flaw or issue in my save file.

Are you sure you're not declining it or possibly you don't have enough money to buy it from them?

If it was a glitch it would have nothing to do with your save file. It would either be your installation or v1.7 itself. You can check your game installation for corruption and repair it if you need to.

I'm definitely not declining and it's not a bells issue. Neither one has been a sale offer, just a 'here, take my extra'. I will check my installation for corruption though, thanks for the tip!
