i've been doing this for over 2 hours just to get shari to live in the southeast area of my town
and i'm getting so fed up

what are some tips and tricks to help villagers pick out suitable spots
would setting up trees/pwps help or something

They can plop down on top of trees, but you can put down temporary PWPs where you don't want them to go. Not sure if that'll help you right now since Shari is already moving in, but it'll help for future villagers. :)

TT back to the day you invited her and put the biggest pwp you have in a spot that you don't want her to move

TT tomorrow and plot reset. This will help narrow down the area she moves in

if i start up my mayor file and tt a day back, wouldn't she still be able to move in ((((this happened to me once and pissed me off to no end)))

Don't start up your mayor and tt with the ingame clock, tt back a day with the 3ds clock, make a new character and make sure her plot isn't there, then you can load up your mayor. i'd recommend even saving with the new character and deleting it just to make sure.

oh truuuuue, i forgot i could do that
alright let me try this

Ok sorry for confusion.

When you first invite a villager you can add 1 pwp spot. It'll be fenced with th gyroid. So since you are already plot resetting.
TT back to the day you invited her in. Go on mayor. And place pwp.

Day 13: invited villager
Day 14: plot resetting

Day 13 is safe because you already played as your mayor when you invited her in.

Do not go on day 14 as mayor. The day they officially move in with fenced house.

This is the way to squeeze in 1 last pwp placeholder.

Normally I would suggest placing pwps randomly in a good spaced ratio, in the upper area of your town.

also if after placing the public works project she decides to keep moving into another annoying spot, if you happen to have an extra character space then build a temporary house there! (the same day as you "build" the pwp)

From Tumblr:

Plot Reset Tip! (Pattern Breaking)

Note that this is from my experience and results may or may not vary.

What you do:

Begin plot resetting as you normally would. For your first 4-6 (or so) attempts, be sure to press the power button, then the home button and relaunch the game (when you aren?t satisfied with a plot). You may have noticed that the villager plots tend to be in the same 2-3 (approximate) general areas. The above method (what I italicized) has a tendency to create this ?pattern?. If this pattern doesn?t fit your needs, then breaking it is necessary.

To break the pattern, instead of pressing the power button then home button, completely power off your 3DS (when you aren?t satisfied with the plot). From here, you can continue to do the power button + home method (about 4-6 times again) because a new pattern has been created. If you are still unsatisfied with this new pattern, repeat these steps by breaking the pattern and testing out the new one.

Let?s say you?re a perfectionist and you?re trying to get a plot in the exact 3x3 area. If the pattern is placing the plot in the general area (close to where you want it to be), then continue using the power button + home method, and with enough luck/patience you might get it!
