The SNES has one of my favorite game libraries ever. Like others have said, there's a surprising amount of variety, but it excels in platformers and RPGs especially. I can't think of a console that even comes close.

No town of uglies is complete without Rocco. And personally I find Astrid a bit garish, but that one's more debatable.

Peaches are my favorite. I had peaches in my old GCN town back in the day, as well as Peaches the horse as one of my villagers.

Bob personifies me pretty well. Not only am I lazy but I'm also a cat person. I can't say there's much resemblance appearance-wise, but that goes for all the villagers as far as I know.
