Just a tip though, if you're visiting towns in the future try not to run or leave the sight of the host unless you've been given permission to do so. I'm really sorry if this comes across as rude ><; It's just a general rule and understanding to guard against theft or random acts of destruction. Some hosts may immediately flick their wifi switch or leave a poor wifi rating as well if they misunderstand your intentions. You can also usually count on the host to end session too (especially in trades), since it's faster than leaving through the station.

Again, sorry if this offends you :c It's just a heads up since you seem new to the forum.

Oh ok, I did some more research and supposedly if it's already 6am the next day the petition will be nulled. We can try though, opening my gates in a minute. Town name is Dawn.

No problem, I thought that might have been the case. xD But has it been one day since you were asked to gather signatures? Petitions only last a day, after that your villager won't accept them anymore (if I'm not mistaken you won't be able to collect signatures anymore either). You can try talking to your villager to confirm this, if it's too late I think the petition will turn into a paper scrap.

I've closed my gates for now, let me know if you still need signatures and I'll reopen.
