I can't agree more! Nobody really cares about what your villager is like in Animal Crossing. They let you explore freely. If you do something like hitting your villagers with your net, sure, they'll be mad at you for a bit, but then they'll feel better and you're most likely inclined to not do it again because you don't want to see them sad. It has a very gentle way of nudging you towards your goals.
