Sorry just saw your reply. This is the feature. Not every game has it, and it doesn't look like Sonic Racing has it sadly. I did see you can try a demo for free. It's not the same thing as owning the full game, but it's still something!

I looked in the official Sega forum where it details about the free demo but it doesn't give a link to it. I'm assuming you would have to go on the virtual shop and there may be a free demo download on the Eshop. Don't take my word for it, as I'm not entirely sure. It sounds a likely place to start though.
