I have no idea whether or not people are aware of this, but I thought I might as well copypaste a new feature Youtube has implemented.

Instead of videos getting deleted for copyright infringement or suspected copyright infringement...it will allow for the copyright holder (or the big corporation that currently holds the rights) to take over the video and either allow for a front of fee per view, or a fee given later to your upgraded youtube account, which will deduct from your choosen method of payment, such as paypal or your credit card. You will also still see ads while using the service. The upgrade will be soon be mandatory to make new videos or even view the regular free videos.

I don't know how this system will handle game trailers or Lets Plays, or even viewing videos of copyright infringing fan games or video game hacks. Of course, these rules only effect the United States, or rather what Youtube thinks is the United States. If you aren't part of the mainland, say Alaska or Long Island, NY you aren't officially part of the US as per Youtube's views. Don't worry! You won't go to jail, you just aren't apart of the US and you will simply be blocked from any videos that use the service, as the rest of the world is.

Remember the Spy & Pyro animation? Instead of money going to the animator of the short, it would go to Valve because it uses their copyright characters. Or rather...should go.

The way Youtube handles things is that only ONE company is able to sucessfuly claim a copyright vid. You can notice this by how their "buy the song in the video" works. If it is say a parody that uses quick bits of popular songs in the background, the one with the most money in their pockets and best lawyer staff wins out.

Since Spyro was used at the end, Activision could take claim for the entire thing. Activision is harsh on fan work, like the 8 years in the making King's Quest fan game that got shut down by Activision, who had acquired Sierra via a merger...even though Sierra was more lenient premerger, letting them continue, even getting the original King's Quest creators to ok the game. Activison has no plans to make a King's Quest game in the future.

HOWEVER, the one who would win out would be Time Warner, due to how the Spy & Pyro short animation parodies the Looney Tunes cartoons and said series logo. They win the pissing contest and rights to the Spy & Pyro animation. The animator himself would get sued for a huge sum of money that he can't pay and even thrown in jail. If only Valve got the rights, the animator would most likely be hired to do other animated works for them...ending in a good end.

Combine this with every parody on Youtube that uses something copyrighted.
