ASAPScience is a good channel, I suggest everyone subscribes. Some really interesting videos, and they dispel some common science myths.

Super mario RPG taught me how to read when I was 3. I've learned to be patient and a myriad of other personality traits. Animal Crossing helped me in developing a kind heart when I was in elementary school.Gaming pretty much raised me from the ground up (common sense, life experience, and determination also helped me in growing up as well).

It's been proven that video games help hand eye coordination and various other things. It also gives creative motivation as well. I know there's other things that it helps.. but I mean certain video games, you need intelligence to figure out how to complete it or certain tasks in it, so I would think it would help you improve on certain levels intelligently. A lot of video games I've seen these days, sadly, aren't as challenging as some of the games back in the day. They seem to cater to babying people by providing them too many tips or telling them flat out how to do something instead of letting you figure it out yourself. It really takes the fun out of it. I grew up playing video games all my life, and I feel like it helped me grow in certain levels on an intelligent stand-point.

Sure, many games can make you smarter and improve brain function. For example, Pikmin is based a lot around counting and memory. You may find yourself counting when trying to throw pikmin at an object to carry it. Although counting is a simple task, it helps keep your brain active. You may also find yourself trying to memorize how many Pikmin can carry a certain item. In addition, the strategy in Pikmin can help keep your brain active too.

A story in a game may intrigue a player so much that they may start thinking about it. They may start wondering will happen next, making inferences and forming their own opinions on a character or what is going on so far in the story. This encourages critical thinking which is good for the brain. Some games deal with spending money that you earn, this may also be helpful for the brain.

There are so many different genres of games, that if would be impossible to list all of the reasons why they can make you smarter.

Well, I don't really understand this The only games I know that does this you can easily skip that handholding stuff anyway. Also, for most of those games, even if you are given tips or told how to do something, you still need to apply your own skills to it. In fact, I think I might make a topic about this.

Go play Dark Souls tell me you're getting babied.

The only thing I can think of is that it could help your reaction time, puzzle solving, button memorization, muscle memory and maybe your organization skills. Which is good I guess. But IMO if you're asking if video games make you smart it's like asking if ANY hobby could make you smart. At the end of the day, are you better off not playing video games rather than playing a 12 hour marathon, it's all a matter of opinion.

Is it bad that I play a lot of video games but failed at all the tests with the colored circles moving on the screen lol...

I think they can depending on what game it is.

Computers and video gaming pushed me to read when I was younger and also got me interested in figuring out how technology works. Granted, gaming isn't the direct cause for those things, but they pushed me into learning. I think it depends on what you get out of it. There are games that have a ton of potential to teach you things if you're willing to do some of the leg-work yourself. Not to mention actual educational games...

In moderation maybe, but if one gets addicted and it inhibits their studies ect., then that could be seen as stupidity in itself.

pretty much this. I don't think it's going to turn you into a genius with the highest IQ in the world, but it can help you think logically, and expand brain capacity, which are useful to make you smarter, but it doesn't necessary make you smarter, it just sets up the 'equipment' you need to gain knowledge later on if that makes sense??

They can, but the positive benefits stop outweighing the negatives after about 2 hours of playing.
