A lot of video games I've seen these days, sadly, aren't as challenging as some of the games back in the day. They seem to cater to babying people by providing them too many tips or telling them flat out how to do something instead of letting you figure it out yourself. It really takes the fun out of it. I grew up playing video games all my life, and I feel like it helped me grow in certain levels on an intelligent stand-point.
It's been proven that video games help hand eye coordination and various other things. It also gives creative motivation as well. I know there's other things that it helps.. but I mean certain video games, you need intelligence to figure out how to complete it or certain tasks in it, so I would think it would help you improve on certain levels intelligently. Is it bad that I play a lot of video games but failed at all the tests with the colored circles moving on the screen lol...
The only thing I can think of is that it could help your reaction time, puzzle solving, button memorization, muscle memory and maybe your organization skills. Which is good I guess. But IMO if you're asking if video games make you smart it's like asking if ANY hobby could make you smart. At the end of the day, are you better off not playing video games rather than playing a 12 hour marathon, it's all a matter of opinion.
