do you ever have those moments when it just hits you that you're an adult / a teenager / whatever / and you just feel really old

today we had a guy come to fix our oven (the thermostat has been broken basically since we moved in to this apartment almost 10 months ago, meaning the oven overheats and burns everything and we can't use it)

and now our oven works and we can bake cakes and brownies and tomorrow we can have oven-baked fish for dinner FINALLY and why am i so excited this is pathetic but it's honestly the most exciting thing to happen in a long time

a few months ago we got a fancy semi-expensive rice cooker and i was exactly the same
it was the highlight of my entire month

is this what it's like being an adult?
getting excited over kitchen appliances?

Maybe, if you like cooking food and being responsible I guess :P

But yeah you really feel old when your parent(s) have the mental capability of a 9 yo.

I think I notice being an adult more around birthdays and Christmas. You know you're getting older when the only presents you start to receive are socks and underwear....
Having to buy for lots of people also took a while getting used to after I left school. After 10 years you'd think I'd be better at it but I still end up forgetting I've got to buy people presents for their birthdays or Christmas.

Lol, this. I actually had to tell my grandma to stop giving me socks and undies. I mean fine if you want to give me clothes (that I have to pick out myself anyways) but tbh.. I just prefer money or maybe like tickets to something idek

Ah, I'm awful at remembering to buy people presents. I admit sometimes I still rely on my mum to grab me something for a friend's birthday because I've left it to the last minute, but I do tend to be a bit more organised around Christmas time. It's just so hard to know what to buy people, especially when you have a more tight budget. :( I usually have to buy my brother's presents for my parents too, because he would be too lazy to.

Also, I know I am still only a young adult, but I really start to feel old when I start to see my once baby cousins grow into older children who are starting secondary school or in their last years of primary school. I'm the oldest out of my cousins on the paternal side of my family, and the third oldest on the maternal side (my two oldest cousins are in their thirties now), so I've always felt like the grown-up one. But now they're starting to grow up and it's like what no you're like a baby still. ;v; It's especially weird as I am exactly 10 years older than one of my cousins, so now she's like 8, turning 9, and that just feels so strange to me.

I'm similar when I buy new furniture or appliances or even plates. I get so happy and excited lmao.

What really hits me though is the budgeting and bills. The moment I got my first job I started paying for everything for myself and I learned and recently did too... a lot of lessons!

Omg, I'm 16! But yeah, the thrill of the simple is nice.

Simply turning 19 last month was like a slap in the face. :(

I already feel very old and I think that the best years of my life are behind... My gf thinks I'm pathetic over this xD

you're not old lmao

nothing makes me feel more like an adult than scheduling stuff like doctor appointments or calling up the bank

This is so true though. I never realized how childish my mom is. She can participate in society but mentally she is still stuck in high school. Now that I am in my 20s, it is extremely noticeable. Age does not make one mature.

yeah, my dad has the social capability of like a 9 yo discovering the world outside and being really defensive about stuff. take it he has whatever letter combinations but tbh that is not an excuse to behave like a muppet.

I'm 21 and I still feel 15.

Also, I went to the dentist this morning and when I was about to head out the lady at the front desk asked if I needed a pass back to class. I've been out of school for 3 years now.

Lmao I was at the library reading while I waited for the bus after work. I was 19 at the time. In the library, there was an elementary class having a field trip, picking out books to read. The librarian knelt down in front of me and asked if I picked out my book yet. I was soooo confused until I realized she mistakened me as an elementary schooler. I mean, I look young but damn, that is insane!

Well I'm 24 but I still look like some high school gal lol. I always get ID'd no matter what haha unless I know whoever selling me booze n **** lol.

Only good thing is that I could probably get away with buying under 20 tickets for public transport lol

Ahhh my mom too! Her views of everything is insanely screwed and in turn is racist and homophobic. S: but hey, it's her who will suffer, not me! It just makes me mad when her ignorance hurts others.

I'll be 20 soon but I feel more like an older lady lol
Usually because I'm more of a mom friend rather than a party bud, also I identify with older people more than with people my age haha ; u ;
And yeah I agree with most people age doesn't make you more or less mature ~

yeah sadly my dad is like a mr. jekyll and dr. hyde type of person so yeah most of the time he hurt rather than just being ignorant in general

your parents cut you off, which they will soon since I'm about to graduate college. Then, you are compelled to get a job. I don't have a problem with working. As a kid, you probably thought you could make above $12 easy from any job and keep your wages. Then you find out that the government taxes the hell out of you and spends that money on Israel, the military, bailing out unstable govts, etc. You also realize that it's nearly impossible to earn a wage more than $10 / hr without a degree while the managers and executives make over $100K a year. Yeah, I hate being an adult
