So I really liked a town map someone had and got one similar to theirs because of how nice it looked. Instead what I wanted to do though was design my town completely differently from what they had except we share a similar map layout. Another person said that's similar to stealing, but is it really?
Would you consider this as plagiarizing/stealing?

No it's not. It's kind of easy to duplicate a layout with some of the river patterns in this game.

to be honest i thought there was only like 4 maps you could get, and no idk who would say that's stealing or plagiarizing that makes zero sense. if you look at it its sorta like random game luck
Well there's four map OPTIONS when you start, yes. But the different varieties the maps come in change whenever you reset the screen when you're starting a new town.
But yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either.
Haha no it's not stealing. There's only so many layouts and many people have similar/same map layouts anyways. As long as you create your town on your own and the way you want it than you're 100% original in my book

No, it isn't. It would only be plagiarism if you then said you wanted to copy every inch of what they had done in their town. Lots of people have the same map layout.
No I don't think it would be stealing... Unless you copy and have a ton of exact same stuff like mayor/town names, same villagers, character & villager house locations, pwp placements, qr code path/tiles and landscaping ideas.. then maybe.. but if it's just the map layout that's similar, and you are going to work on it to make it your own, it's more like you got inspired by that town.. c:

Even if you got it because you wanted to copy every single inch and little detail about this person's town, it's still not considering stealing.

lol its part of the game to have similar layouts. every map is different in their own way but it's not like everything was custom made for one person (unless u hack that is)

Its not stealing at all! Just because your map layout is the same doesnt mean that your town itself will be the same. With all the different paths/public work projects/villagers etc its very easy to make your town look different!
No of course not, it could also happen that you just chose a random one which happens too look like that map and it would be totally unfair and really stupid if that would be a problem.
