So I FINALLY landed a steady gig. It's at this Brazilian cafe and grill, and it is just an amazing job... so far I've earned $100 playing for around 3 hours. The atmosphere is so homey... and since I love Brazilian stuff -- be it music, its people, language, food, etc -- this place is like heaven for me.

I also get treated to free dinner every night, so that's a great plus. I don't know if things could be going any better right now, haha... : D

How much do you get paid an hour?
Or is it for gigs?

Since it's a small family business, I don't get paid by the hour. There are two ways I can get paid -- either tips only, or by the amount of people entering. Something like $2 per person. I've found that just setting up the tip jar is better... but I guess it depends on the time of day, whether it's a weekend or not, etc.

I also sell CDs for $10 a pop, so... I've played two times there already, and the average is $50 per night, playing around an hour and a half each time. Not bad I think.

Pretty small, actually. They're located in a strip mall, there are like 7 4-person tables, and a few 2-person ones... it's really cozy though.

Maybe, but getting food for free is a big help financially with gas prices the way they are. I'd take free food as many times as I could.

Well, gas is costing people a lot of money on top of other expenses like food. So if you get free food, that's just one less thing you have to pay for. That way, you save money.
