There actually is no best OS, because there will never be an OS that does everything.

When choosing an OS, it depends upon what you want to do.

And looking at what Web Master wants to do, then I think he should get a Windows OS, as he wants to download, pretty much everything is compatible with Windows.

People forget that pretty much everything is compatible with Macs now, and if it's not, it has an alternative which a lot of the time is better than the Windows versions and they're free when the Windows versions aren't.

And yeah, Windows 7 isn't more demanding than Vista. They're pretty much the same. And besides, you can always turn Windows 7 Aero off. It exponentially reduces the resource consumption.
