Will WA updating on a different ds make me lose my town?

Hi there, my brother got a new 2ds xl for his birthday so I'm using it to help move stuff from town to town, but when I put my game into his system, it wants my to update to WA. I updating all my games before I started my towns, I just want make sure that updating on a different system it wont erase the towns.

Can you get onto your file? I'd you can, sit on the tree at the plaza. If you can't sit on it, sometimes it may if it is a hacked town but not usually.

My town is old enough to be appraised if that's what you're asking, but no, I can't see my file because that requires hacking.

i know what you mean. i have never tried this, since i'm worried it could wipe your data. i have no idea if it does, though...maybe wait until someone who has the answer can help?

I'm not touching anything until I know it won't. I'm restarting the town anyway, but NOT with all my stuff in it.

Sorry I’m kinda confused o.o Have your towns been through the update on the original (I assume) 3DS? Like have you updated them before?

Because I own 2 3DS and one had the update while the other didn’t which meant my towns went through the update.. but when I loaded the game to the 3DS that did NOT have the update it seemed to have “wiped” my town just by seeing the title screen. I did NOT load anything I instantly turned it off and updated. Once I did the update my town was back.. so I’m going to say BOTH 3DS/2DS require the update IF ONE has already been updated and you’ve loaded the towns through the updated 3DS. Only saying this out of MY own personal experience.

Ok, that's encouraging, let me explain better.

All 3 of my towns and my ds have had the update.
My brother's doesn't have it since he doesn't play.

I'm updating my bro's ds now, without my game in it.

Ok makes more sense then YES his NEEDS the update or else you “lose” the town because the town has been updated to like a different “format” (don’t quote me on this I know there’s a better word .__. ) than what the game was before the update. So the card reverts itself to before the update which unfortunately means you “lose” the town. But if you update it you are fine I freaked out so badly when I thought I lost Cocona ;o; it was my first town that I started back in August 1, 2013... When I turned it on and saw a random villager and some default town on the title screen I panicked and turned it off. Then realized the 3DS didn’t have the update. So yeah. No you won’t lose your town if you update it I assume you would lose it if you didn’t update it.

Ah, thank you for explaining it, it makes me much more comfortable with loading my game, the update should be loaded. I'l try it now.
