Will it grow? I see so many cute trees in tight spaces and I have trouble fitting them in and making everything look packed full and detailed!

If it does not, replant it somewhere else and then replant it back there once it grows.
I know what you're saying but I can't plant a grown tree there, that's why I resorted to planting a sapling in the first place

The waterfall will prevent it growing :(

Have you tried digging the waterfall after the tree has been planted?

It probably won't let them dig a waterfall afterward.
Fully grown trees need a free space of 1 square all around. The game doesn't let you build cliffs or water areas directly next to them.

it won't - you know because it won't let you transplant a grown one there. trees cannot have more than a half cut square of water surrounding their corner edges. this waterfall takes an entire square.

Maybe plant it somewhere else and the next day it should be a little bit bigger, then you might be able to plant the smaller tree there.

I don't think it'll be able to, but to be safe, just grow it elsewhere first and then move it.

if it won’t let you plant a grown tree there already then your sapling won’t grow unfortunately. even if you plant it somewhere else and transfer it back, it’ll be the same result you had with a full grown tree. you either have to remove your waterfall there or fill that space with something else.

If you have fully grown sapling somewhere in your island, eat a fruit then take it and try to plant it there to see if you can place it.

you could put a potted tree item there and put something else in front to hide the pot so it looks like a normal tree

In my experience, you can plant a grown tree in a place where a sappling wont grow, but the reciprocate is not true, so no, I don't think it will grow.

It won't grow. A tree needs at least a half space open in each of the four diagonal directions. The cliffs are okay because they give you a half space on each diagonal, but the waterfall is not since that takes up the whole space southwest of the sapling (even though it doesn't look like it takes up the whole space).
