Why is my villager not in boxes?

Bruce asked to leave yesterday and I'm 99% sure I said yes (the second option) but I didn't pay attention to what he said after that because I was on a work call. Today he's not in boxes.

Is it possible for him to ignore me telling him to leave and decide to stay?

Is it because I invited a campsite villager yesterday?

Is there something else you have to do to get a villager to leave?

I've been waiting for the thought bubble to move off of one of my favourite villagers and it finally did and now he's still here! Argh.

There has been a reported bug that happens in your described situation. If a camper is invited on the same day (and presumably forces out another villager) that another villager asks to move out, the villager who asks to move out won't be in boxes the following day. I'm not sure how this affects things like when a villager asks to move out next, but for the time being, Bruce won't be moving out.

hmm dont villagers take around 3 days before they're in boxes after asking permission to leave?

No. Villagers who ask to leave will be in boxes the following day. Maybe you're thinking of how it worked in NL, where a villager would start mentioning a move out 5 days prior to being boxes?

oh what :o it took a few days for a villager of mine to be in boxes though?
and within those days, the first thing the villager talked about at the start of the day is about how "he'll miss the town", "excited to move", etc.

That’s strange. The process is day 1 ask to move out —> day 2 in boxes —> day 3 empty plot.

Dialogue usually follows as day 1 I’ll miss this place etc etc. I can’t recall if other villagers say anything. Day 2 they’re in boxes and other villagers will mention how they will miss the villager and encourage you to visit. Day 3 is back to normal.

He didn't say anything about leaving when I spoke to him today, so I guess he's not going. Damn. Thanks for explaining though!

This is exactly what happened to me. I invited Ankha to my campsite and had her force out Judy. Later that day, Chevre asked to move out and I allowed her to. Chevre didn't move out the following day and I had to wait another week or so before she asked again.

Huh, I hadn't heard of this before. So annoying. I literally watched the bubble move around my whole island day by day until finally it landed on Bruce.

I could amiibo him out but I love island hopping, and I was also hoping to try and get Sherb.

Oh well.
