Why is my family so non-vegetarian friendly?

So, my mum just got my family fish and chips. And she gave me chips, that have been covered in fish.
She always does this, gives me vegetarian sausages that have been cooked with meat juices.
I don't know why I bother...
I don't care that she eats meat and stuff, but just when she gives me meat it annoys me.

Maybe she just doesn't understand? I don't think she would do it on purpose. Perhaps you should talk to her nicely and let her know that what she's doing is wrong and tell her what she should do instead.

I don't know how big your family is but it can be stressful to give one member of the family a different meal because they're vegetarian. My brother hates mac and cheese so whenever we have it, my mom gets annoyed having to prepare a different dish for him. I couldn't imagine doing that for every meal.

I don't live with her, she knows.
She just does it on purpose I bet. I only see her once every 3 weeks or so and she just has to do it.

Yeah I'm vegetarian but I would never ask my family to prepare separate food for me. That just seems disrespectful to people who took the time to make a meal for you.

I always have to eat dinner that has like ham in it and stuff and my mum always says: "Just pick it out,"
..............

I mean I'm only with her half the time so it's not like she has to stop cooking meat or anything :3

Preach it, my mums the exact same.
I cook her meat food all the time, I only see her once every 3 weeks and still does that.

It's not, it's buying chips from the chip shop.
I cook her food all the time and I'm getting fed up.
-_-

It's definitely a lot easier to eat vegetarian if you're living by yourself, or you cook your own food. This applies not only to yourself, but also the people around you such as your family. Making food isn't always the easiest after a long day at work, and just to prepare dishes for the family can already take over an hour. Then imagine cleaning everything and starting all over again for one person so there are zero "meat juices", while the rest of the food gets cold from waiting.

If the meat juices really bother you, offer to prepare your own food?

Edit: Did the fish and chips place offer a vegetarian option?

I would but it's fish and chips.
She rarely cooks when I'm over.
I only asked for chips.
It's just annoying. They always tell me to stop being fussy. I don't tell them what to do, sorry. I just needed a mini rant.

Be direct with her. Instead of complaining to us go and tell her that you feel it's inappropriate to serve food to a vegetarian that has been prepared in that way.

I was vegetarian for several years and it took people a while to adjust - especially my mum, as she did the bulk of the cooking at the time. At first I felt like I had to be constantly reminding her of it. She wasn't deliberately trying to be inconsiderate she just seemed to need some time to get her head around the fact.

Wow people really need to respect their mothers more. Like why can't you guys just make your own food when your parents are cooking meat? These forums provide me with about 10 reasons per day to never have kids.

Thanks, maybe I should. I don't think she understands exactly. I don't have a problem with her eating meat, just the way she speaks to me. My dads amazing with this, he always caters for me so much. But mum 0%.

I cook her food all the time, it's not cooking food is it? It's buying chips from the chip shop.

I do cook myself, I'm even getting my food tech GSCE. Try coming back from a whole week at school and then doing homework when you get back at 5pm then cooking. It takes a toll on you.

Definitely talk to her more about it, but respectfully! Adults have work too, and I know my mom doesn't always feel up to cooking after she comes back from work. Your mom also has to cook for herself every day, while you probably only do it once in a while (And I'm confused... she did buy you chips, didn't she?)

No. The mom made fish and chips and gave her vegetarian kid half a meal. Instead of substituting the meal with some vegetarian protein, the mom served half the meal.

I have parents who do not understand my vegetarian diet at all, too.

It's frustrating and the Slammint has a right to feel exhausted. As a matter of fact, I feel that Slammint is a bit easy going here. :/ Sure Mom probably feels she shouldn't have to cook special meals just for one member of the family. That, I TOTALLY get. But Mom can get creative and make meals with multiple types of proteins so her kid gets the nutrition needed.

She brought fish+chips and gave me the chips that were covered in the fish pieces.
I just had no dinner. She's not at work at the moment. She does have a hard job, but she doesn't really cook, she gets microwave meals and stuff most of the time. My dad was always the cook

It was literally buying a ready made meal from a shop. It wasn't as if Slammint was FORCING their mother to cook quorn or anything. Seriously, this is quite unfair

She didn't make it, she brought it from the fish and chip shop... When she could of easily just brought chips.
Thanks. I'm not even there most of the time.

Yep.
I usually hate being awkward so I just go without or something. Or make a sandwhich.

I was wondering why she wouldn't do this... would have saved money, the fish is the expensive part! Unless you were just given someone else's chips and they ate the fish.

Oh. The whole use of "brought" instead of "bought" really threw me off, Slammint. Hahah!

So this is even worse, because she could have bought some other meal that was vegetarian friendly.

I feel like eating chips (french fries guys...just french fries) on its own is a really sad excuse for a meal.

So to clarify, Slammint, you said you "just wanted chips" and am upset that your mom didn't buy you yout own meal of chips, and instead gave you chips from someone else's fish and chips meal because everyone else was eating fish and chips? You would've liked it more if she went to a different store that only sells chips, and bought yours from there?
