it's like once I start landscaping and half the town is done I want nothing to do with the town....

yes, I had basically all my bells handed to me as well as all my outfits, items etc. and it feels wrong and took the challenge and 'fun' from the game.

so there's that and it seems like once I progress into my landscaping fairly far, I want it either done then and there and complete or I want to reset.

why do I get in this rut? anyone else? I mean I've had this game since the night it came out at midnight and I have reset 50 + times probably since the release.

I really want to reset but I got pretty far with the landscaping, just so much work and feel like I cannot go on and do more. maybe paths and doing all this isn't my thing. idk......

edit: also, if anyone wants to briefly come and see what I've done so far you can, I am just in this rut and I'm so close to just resetting and starting new and doing everything by myself it would just take so much longer. also, I have the most perfect map ever though and that is very important to me.

Well my guess is you're in the rut you're in because you got everything handed to you instead of earning it yourself. That happened to me back in a town I played a while ago. I bought 22 million bells from someone on here and the game stopped being fun because I didn't earn that money, it was given to me. So I made a vow to earn everything my own, money, outfits, furniture, everything earned by my own hard work. Believe me, it's a lot more rewarding that way.

My advice is reset, find a map that you really like and earn everything on your own. Don't buy money, outfits or anything from any, earn it yourself. Also, if landscaping is why you keep wanting to reset, I suggest either hold off on landscaping or do a little at a time. The gardening shop sells only one sapling a day and bush starts arent available, unless the island has them so that makes landscaping a lot easier to do a bit at a time.

it's difficult because I want to reset since I had almost everything handed to me but at the same time I have made major progress in my town and have 5/10 dreams, etc. if I reset it would take forever to do everything on my own and this game has already been out for a few years and the next installment is going to be coming in the near future so I kind of want to finish this quickly so I can take time to enjoy then move along to the next, you know? ugh.

I always lose interest in a town after I buy loads of stuff off TBT or am given it. Makes the game not as fun. I still participate in the giveaways where people have random littered around their towns, that's just fun.

It's true it could be time consuming but this game isn't meant to be rushed through. Earning stuff on your own makes the game a lot more challenging and fun.

And no, I'm sorry but I don't know. Just because a new installment of a game is coming out doesn't mean you should stop enjoying the older installments of the game or trying to as you say, finish it quickly. I, myself, still play Sims 2 even though EA is already on Sims 4. Just because Sims 4 is newer doesn't make Sims 2 any less fun. Same things go with Animal Crossing. :)

But if you're in a reset rut, take a break from the game. Also think about the annoying things you have to do again if you reset: unskippable, hand holding tutorials with drawn out speeches from Isabelle, the maps and the approval rating. Oh dear god the approval rating....

what I've gotten from giveaway towns, etc. has mostly been bells and hybrids / bushes / my current outfit.
I haven't gotten furniture or anything.

without getting some help with bells and hybrids, finishing my towns landscaping like I want would be impossible at least not for awhile. maybe I will just finish landscaping then work on getting pwp requests and once done buying bushes / hybrids I need I can get rid of all my bells and earn them myself to buy more outfits, all my furniture, etc.?

I've been extending the 'lifespan' of my towns by creating goals, and keeping trading with others to an absolute minimum, only trading if I absolute had to (in my case, needing an item for a villager birthday). Adopting villagers is fine, though. I also plan on opening a shop later down the road where I only accept IGB, so my hard work is rewarded.

Most of my towns that I reset are towns where I just bought a bunch of stuff that helped me too greatly, so it killed some of the fun. Some towns were just reset because they eventually didn't appeal to me anymore, or I just got burned out.

I've also been working on a town progress blog, documenting all my progress for others to read and it has really helped me keep some motivation!

Well that sounds like a good idea too. However if you do decide to reset, I suggest you earn everything on your own instead of buying it. Yes it's time consuming, but not impossible to make your town how you want, even without outside help. I bred about 20 or so hybrids of various colors and breeds on my own within the last two weeks and I earned 750k bells yesterday beetle hunting on the island.

I once read a quote on one of my school notebooks (some kind of blank book to write notes/dates down) I can't remember who they sourced the quote for and it's paraphrased, but this is how it kind of went,

'Getting started is always the easy part, it's finishing which is the hardest.'

Happiness starts with the perfect town map. Get a map that's just too good to reset anymore. Or get another copy of the game if you simply cannot go through with resetting your current town.

i'm assuming it's because of the bells too. on my second copy i hacked in everything, including max bells and then got hella bored of it right away. in all of my main towns, i started earning bells myself from island beetle farming and selling stuff to reese in my town. only reason why i've restarted my town is because of me and my sister wanting to be the mayor. so i suggest earning the bells yourself, and once you've completed everything buy bells here if you want.
