Green Star Fragment
After Muffy moved out, I decided to go villager hunting - and I end up on an island with Judy. I did not take her because I felt no real connection with her. I feel so guilty now and I shouldn't. I've fallen into the messed up mindset that I have to take the popular villagers because of how critical the AC community has become. I'm looking for a villager I can have a real bond with, I just felt nothing with Judy

tbh if i found judy i would take her, but that's just because i like her not because she's popular
if you don't want a villager you don't have to take them, it doesn't matter if they're popular or not
i've passed so many popular's because i didn't really like or want them ☆

You don't have to feel guilty, you shouldn't have to take a villager because they're popular. I feel like a lot of people take villagers based on popularity alone and that's why so many people have the same island with the same villagers.

Being yourself and liking or disliking a villager is okay!

I mean, it's hard to establish a connection with a villager right away, especially just upon meeting them. But as many times as it has been mentioned here, you should feel no pressure to take a villager based on what you think the community wants. It is your island after all, and why should others impede on what you want to do with it?

This game is a lot more fun when you do not take into consideration how other people expect you to play. :)

It's all about love at first sight! That happened to me when I saw Felicity for the first time. 🥰

Sometimes it's like that. I had Boomer at my campsite yesterday. I didn't have him move in for two reasons. I already have 5 male villagers. I currently have 4 female villagers, and I need one more female villager. But aside from that, I wasn't feeling it with him, especially since his catchphrase is "human". Anyway, forget about who is popular and who isn't. If I had it my way, my ideal villagers would be Klaus, Hans, Wolfgang, Freya, Skye, Zucker, Vic, Sterling, Knox, and Sven (if he was in New Horizons). There might be some popular ones in my list, but I liked them before knowing about their popularity.

No one would have known if you didn't say anything, haha. I don't mean that in a mean way, I'm trying to console you - nobody in the community knows anything you don't tell them, so if you're afraid of judgment from other people, remember that they don't know what's happening on your end. You do you!

Ive done that too, no worries! its your gameplay and experience, so no one else should influence who you bring back home

I think you did the right thing. If you don't like a villager, don't take them just because they're popular. If you do like a villager, take them even if they aren't popular.

nothing wrong with this at all. don't think otherwise, at the end of the day it's YOUR island 💙

You made the SMART decision. I understand this feeling of regret. I left Fauna on an island because of a stupid reason: because I had her in New Leaf. I wasn't able to find anyone else amazing after her, except Tia, who I feel is just ok... But think about this... you would have just ended up moving Judy out anyway... Plus, who knows you might find someone better? That's what happened to me after I gave up Marina TWICE, and Merengue once (I found the fox).

Hope this helped 😊

To be honest, I wouldn't take Judy either. I don't think you really should worry about what other people think because at the end of the day, it's your island, you do what you want to do. Sure I have Ankha on my list because that's my brother in laws favorite AC character EVER, even though she's super popular.. but I also have like Megan, who is highly unpopular, and Aurora too (she's not as bad, but have you seen how unpopular Megan is on the new villager poll? haha). Do I feel bad for keeping the villagers I want? No, not at all. Do I feel bad that I don't want Raymond on my island? Not at all. Why? Because at the end of the day, I want to be happy with who I have. I don't need certain villagers to make me feel any way other than I want to be happy with them.

I dunno, just my rant honestly because I see posts all the time about things like this, or people getting discouraged because their island doesn't look as good as other peoples, and to me, the only person that has to be happy with your island is you. :) Don't let other people discourage you from being happy with your choices.

You did the right thing.

I actually fell in to this trap with Sherb. Found him while island hopping and I was literally just talking to the dodo to leave the island but then I just... felt like I had to take Sherb.
I felt even if I didn't like him, I could give him away to someone who wants him since he's so popular and that I would be a horrible person if I just skipped. Since I don't TT now I'm kind of stuck with Sherb and every time I see him I feel slightly bad. I can't connect with him at all. Doesn't even feel like my own villager.

When you see a popular villager that you're not a fan of, it's almost like the whole AC community is behind you, whispering to take the villager.

Community popularity means nothing to me.

And, to be honest, I don't know why half of the popular characters are popular to begin with.

I just take the villagers that I like...and have even been surprised by liking a few that I never thought I would. Also, I don't really intend to keep any of my villagers to the bitter end. I kinda always played Animal Crossing as a rotating door. I feel like it keeps things fresh. Anyone who wants to leave, I usually say "good luck" or whatever...unless I want them for a little bit longer, then I'll say they should stay (but the idea is still never to keep them indefinitely). Sometimes people try to leave after a really short time, and I gotta stop them when that happens.

I also felt that way with some of the villagers I passed up, namely Zucker as I saw him while Island hopping and was greatly considering him but passed him up cuz he's really not part of my final lineup, and then look who showed up in my campsite two days ago, it was Zucker again lol, I felt really guilty passing him up again but I can't be weak for him lol

You shouldn't feel bad about this! She is just another villager after all :) I initially got Judy as a random move in, and traded her to someone who wanted her. I decided that I missed her after all, and so I invited her again when I saw her on a mystery island :p

You don't have to feel guilty! If you didn't connect with her, you shouldn't feel like you have to take her just because she's popular!
I like feeling that connection with the villagers on my island. It's alright to pass on popular villagers.

Think of it this way...do you feel like you have to like a movie or an album because a lot of people like it? The same logic should apply to villagers. Your tastes are your own and are what makes you unique. Take pride!
