why are these bushes dying?

yeah i just looked and the ones i had the same distance from lily's house also died ;~;

i thought it was only 1 space but obviously i was wrong

Gah, I hate this function of the game. I don't understand, it's not like it's directly in front of their houses.

i wanted to have a little dirt path leading to their house and it won't look as cute with flowers
time to look for some stepping stones hehe

It's because those bushes are touching the house, even if you can't see it. I bet you counted only nine squares, am I right? But every villager's house has 10, counting the one just in front of the house they need to come in and out. The two squares where you planted the bushes would be touching corners with this invisible one, that's why they are dying...

Real life rules don't apply in animal crossing. Whoever thinks it's normal to place bushes in front of their house is discouraged to do so in this game. It saddens me greatly of all these stupid invisible rules. I can't build a freaking bridge because two villagers houses on either side are too close together for that. I can't place pwps too close to a villager house. This is ridiculous. It would be nice if they changed this with the new update for acnl in December but I doubt it.

Yeah I get fed up of it too, it completely ruins my landscaping plans and I don't have much creativity in that respect to begin with
I'm hoping for many great things in the update and I'm sure I'll end up disappointed....I'm thinking any major changes will come in future games but it doesn't stop me hoping. I can't place a bridge diagonaly anywhere in my town now, the one spot is apparently too close to the cafe and the other is too close to the villager house. None of which actually look too close of course
