Why Are The Sanrio Villagers So Ugly (except for like 2)

RILLA ? no ma'am... everyone else im indifferent to but why did they do sanrio so dirty like that? RILLA representing Ms Kitty? opinions are allowed here but why not just make the superfans corresponding animals?

Yea Etoile is the only one I even like, I'm upset she isn't in the game because I feel like have another option for a sheep villager would be ideal!

Toby the rabbit was a disapointment for real. Another bright yellow rabbit with blue inside the ears, just like Gaston & Mira.

Chelsea i think is the ugly one, Rilla is a bit homely but i kinda want her cause she's a gorilla without a helmet lol

We need a Kuromi -Ruby colour swap~

They did Hello Kitty so dirty make it a gorilla, but yes I agree Marty and Étoile are the only good looking ones

Eh, this is super subjective, I literally think all of them are adorable except Rilla and I’d fill half an island with the other 5 of them if I could. And I think it’s cute and creative how none of them are the obvious thing like hello kitty = cat (even though I’d have picked literally anything but a gorilla), my melody = rabbit, keroppi = frog etc

I’m pretty sure Rilla is a reference to Koko the gorilla and her pet kittens.

They look visually distinct enough to me but I guess I can understand not liking how they’re both tea-themed. I think having them both on an island at once would be adorable though, like Chevre and Nan or Chrissy and Francine.

I agree I meant mostly the concept of both of them being related to tea, and both being elephants is why I'm not a huge fan of Chai since I think Tia pulls the design off better...

I think it's personal preference. While the Sanrio villagers aren't particularly cute for the most part, I would say I wouldn't mind 4 of the 6

Ahh, gotcha, yeah I guess I just don’t have a problem with them sharing the same theme as long as they’re different enough visually and I do like them both! But I guess elephants being unpopular to begin with doesn’t help Chai’s case (even though for me I love the elephants). Though honestly had no idea until recently that the sanrio villagers seemed to be mostly disliked, I always thought it was just Rilla. They could probably be better and having them be the same animal as what they’re based on would be really cute, but I like them as they are!

what truly matters is what there house will look like...sanrio themed~ maybe the smoke can be the cinnamon/kero/pom shaped?

I don't think literally supposed to be the characters, I think they are more of fans or cos players? The only one I really like is Etolie.
