Why are flies rarer than gold?

I been hunting my final fly for the Flick model for months. I still haven't gotten my last one! I have 10 Gold in my inventory and golden boots in my name, but I can't even get 4 flies! I have ran into 4 total, but the one didn't work out. I like to pretend my dude unknowingly squished the evil doer under boot instead of it flying off and leaving me with months of random trash spots out of it's own evil plotting.

I have only hunted for one fly so far, so it's probably a factor, but for me the ants took days for me to get even with a rotten turnip sitting right there. XD I know that needing certain conditions for spawning is part of the game, but I definitely didn't expect the "pests" to be so hard to get!

I'm honestly not even that sure I'd use the Fly model except around Halloween. But I figured since I had the garbage gather for the first one to donate... I may as well keep it out and get enough for the model so it's done and over! Nope, months of them not spawning. I also have the catch a giant trevally and catch a fly in my nook challenges right now. Like I think the rare pier fish is more doable than the fly!

For ants, I had no problem with them. I put the rotten turnips in a large area of grass and the spawns were pretty constant. It might be rougher on more developed islands since they need their spawn spot, the line of them traveling, and the turnip spawn.

I've had a tire and boot out for weeks, trying to get a fly. A villager scared one off and I messed up getting another. Those are the only ones I've seen. Is there a better item to attract them?

I also had a hard time catching a fly. I heard that you can use a used fountain firework to catch flies somewhat easier than the other trash items (since it dont spawn ants) but have never tried it myself

The giant island fly is a picky eater and will only choose the finest michelin star rotten turnip or royal assortment of trash as its meal.

I'm glad it wasn't just me! I accidentally scared off the first one I found because the trash was too close to a door when it opened. It took me like 3 weeks to find and catch a second one.

It's honestly a relief to hear I'm not the only one with difficulty finding a fly.
Seems wild because in real life they're everywhere.
