I've had 5 blue roses I got from a person, and in a month's time of watering (in-game), I have only gotten ONE RED hybrid rose. Why me? Am I doing something wrong? Can you even breed blue roses, or is it impossible? An acre of my map is covered by purple roses now, and both the blue and purple have been there the same time.
Why are blue roses so hard to breed?!

I've been trying to breed them from hybrid reds for months and got nothing as of yet. It took me months to grow purple pansies from scratch and blue roses are meant to be way harder. I've heard that planting jacobs ladders with your flowers is meant to increase the chance of getting a hybrid, not sure if that's true though.
Jacobs Ladders are supposed to increase the chance of Hybrids. 99% sure, and I gave up on finally breeding blue roses and purple pansies. I finally broke down and bought some off of someone ages ago. I only needed one of each though. I have one of every potted flower/weed in my museum gallery. I also have a little island themed room where I have one of every seashell... >>

I havent had too much trouble with blue roses..as Ive had with purple pansies <.< havent gotten a single one in months. Im about to cave in as well and buy a few off someone
I think it's not a bad thing that there are things you can't easily obtain in this game 
It might be hard work, but once you get it, it's a great feeling.
I wouldn't know of course because I don't have neither of those flowers yet

From what I understand you breed them by getting "special red roses", that look no different from regular red roses, then breed those together.... but its hard to know if its actually a special one or a normal one, you forget where you put them and so yeah it can be hard.

This is sort of related (or maybe not, lol) but on the subject of roses, are there some parts of town where they grow but won't breed? I made a little rose garden to try and breed more black ones. Even though I water them with a gold watering can, no roses of any colour grow. So I moved a couple to Marshal's house, watered them and the next day, two new roses (yellow and orange) had grown.

Ohhh you're lucky. I'm at the same situation: I have 4 blue roses from another person for months, but for now, i don't get any extra blue rose. But, I have a lot of jacob's ladders..... and nothing.
I had another town and in this town was very easy to get blue roses. I don't know the reasons.
