Which pain do you rather take? Giving furniture or clothing?

Would you rather give your villagers clothing to wear or furniture to display in their house? I personally prefer to give them clothes because I could always go to Harvey's island to check out if it looks good on my villagers before gifting them one. There's at least some control that we have even though they tend to cycle clothing from time to time. As long as it doesn't look bad on them, I'm totally fine with it. The bath-towel wrap, though...

Furniture is a different story. We don't have the power to choose where the furniture will go to the houses of our villagers and may turn out even worse than we have thought. Like seriously, do you think it's a good idea to place a frying pan on the floor? I don't think putting a clay pot on top of a stove is a good idea. And no, your closet shouldn't be facing the wall (I've had this happen with Rocco).

I have a set tradition- every single villager get a single piece of furniture as a housewarming gift. I always make sure to look their houses up before I pick them to make sure it matches! If I like a villager enough, I'll also gift them some clothing items they'll like. But, otherwise I gift coconuts to build friendship and earn villagers' pics (the stack method is AWESOME)

Well, there's also the risk of them displaying the clothing as furniture... but overall I'd rather gift the clothing because in my experience, they will replace an already displayed clothing item. If they don't have a closet/wardrobe, I usually give them one to see what they have.
As far as furniture goes, I was able to get Diana to replace her hideous purple seashell bed for the Pearl one!

Definitely clothing. Like you said, we have limited control over their furniture placement within their homes. Even if we did, I rarely visit their homes anymore so I’d rather focus on customizing what I see most often which is the villagers out and about.

I actually really love giving my villagers clothing! picking clothes that they’ll like but also look really cute is is my jam~ Mostly because I don’t care about keeping them “original” since I’m at a point where I have all my dreamies, but I still don’t ever bother with furniture

I do love to give my villagers clothing, but I'm very particular about it. I just like to dress them up nicely :giggle: A bad wardrobe bothers me more than bad interior, but then again, I don't care for interior too much at all. I've made the experience that with time, they tend to mess up their houses either way by gifting me all of their decor or getting an excessive amount of pets, so I let them do whatever feels right to them. If I give them stuff for their houses, it's usually potted plants or other kinds of decor.

I give gold roses to the ones I'm trying to get the photos and not keep foreva eva and gold wreath to the keepers.

PS
Do not deliver items for the villager. They will end up with rags and never take em off.

Clothing. The only exception to that has been a few items I've given to Flora, since I kept her in the starter house.

I would rather give them nothing at all than give them a piece of furniture.

sometimes if they get clothes delivered to them they'll ask you how it looks. I always tell them it looks really bad unless it's something that I like on them.
but yeah in general it's not a good idea to deliver items to villagers.

i tell them it's not good but they still wear it O.o

But...I love giving them both! I give a ton of clothes out to everyone, and I need everyone to have a turtle. I void pretty much everyone who moves out, tho.

I like to give furniture :D I think it's funny when they display it and adds character. The only reason why I wouldn't want to do this if I want to give a villager to someone, but tbh I think that takes the fun away from things. I get more annoyed when I see a villager wearing clothes that I would not want them to wear, because I find that I see my villagers more often out and about rather than inside their homes. Seems like my choice is one of the less common ones :D

Clothing because I feel like that makes much more sense than like a giant couch to give as a gift to someone. Of course some little tabletop items, like say an espresso machine, a coffee cup, or a book i'm personally fine with. I don't sell my villagers now and therefore don't really need any of them to stay original, so on the rare occasion I give someone other than my in game son Marshal, I like them to display it in their house and not just have it stored in some invisible void cupboard or something. Also gifting them clothing just makes them feel much more unique to me, and while I haven't gifted too many of my current villagers clothing, that's probably because i'm still agonising over what clothing to actually give them in the first place haha.

That’s my Sprinkles lol. I did a delivery to Sprinkles early on when I was still new to ACNH and now she is always wearing this horrendous green apron looking outfit. It might look good on my character but not on Sprinkles. Thankfully, she’s not a permanent resident.

I have given a few of my permanent residents clothes. I gave Merry the Renaissance dress Pink, Roscoe the black noble coat, plan on giving Kiki the purple renaissance dress when I get that eventually (since I can’t dress her up in a qr code I downloaded just for her :/). That’s it so far. I thought about giving Punchy the blue noble coat since he likes blue and my town is medieval theme, but i previewed it at Harv’s island and I don’t think it goes well with Punchy’s personality lol (he was still cute in it though).

My answer is really neither: I prefer to give them (with the recent post on stack of fruit) wrapped bells a couple times until their friendship is up and then coconuts (stacked fruit full inventory trick). If I could give them furniture without them eventually replacing their current furniture with it, and/or if I could decorate their house, I’d definitely pick furniture.

I like this idea :). That is so sweet 😊

Clothing at the moment, as I haven't given them furniture just yet. From everything I've heard, its probably better to give them wall hanging furniture, so that this way it doesn't get displayed. Correct me if I'm wrong... 🤔
