In animal crossing new leaf, Gulliver mentions different places in the world he talks to you, so your town must be somewhere in the world, there are OTHER humans you can visit. But when my friend and I where on Kapp'n's boat, he mentioned that he looked like me at a younger point of his life. So, he looked like a human when he was younger... interesting. After not playing for a while your character will come out of there house and yawn. My friend hasn't played in months! No one can last that long asleep without food or water. The only question, how do you stay alive while in the deep slumber. Well, what if your town is a dream. When you go to sleep at night that would be your town. How else could you explain the idea of the fact that you can hear animals and you're the mayor of a random town in the middle no were. Yes, this theory has flaws because of the dream suite, but still it was fun to look into.

-Thanks for reading

Hm...
See, I read the "Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing" creepypasta like 5 years ago which gave me the headcanon that the gyroids eventually turn you into an animal.
I remember reading it when I was nine and looking over my shoulder so my parents wouldn't see me reading it haha

At least it's better than the 'child kidnapper' theory. Still weird, but at least it's better.

Or maybe ACNL is real, and our world is a dream!

Here's my theory:

Your parents were very rich people who couldn't handle it when you were put into a coma. You were always very alone as a child, and had no friends besides the hospital staff and a few stuffed animals.

A few weeks after you fall into a coma, a new company releases revolutionary technology. It allows scientists to reach into the minds of comatose patients and try to wake them up. Every patient has a trigger, something that will wake them up from their coma.

Your parents hire a team of scientists to help you wake up. They appear as the Villager NPCs. Every person's 'dream world' is different, hence the different maps/villagers.

I might edit this later, but I'm thinking about writing a story on this, if I don't get incredibly lazy xD

I remember reading one on tumblr where it's the afterlife and you've died and the letters from mom are stuff she leaves on your grave.

... ; -;

I always see it as this:

In this world, people also interact with humanoid like Animals. The two groups co-exist and live together without much bickering, since the humans help the animals and vice versa.

You are a young teenager who wishes to leave their home behind and start your own, new life. One day you leave your home behind and go on a train, bringing with you absolutely nothing. All you know on the train is where you're going. You fall asleep on the train and when you finally wake up, annoying stupid Rover wants to make small talk.

Being alone in this new, scary world you happily comply. Rover eases your nerves and once you enter your destination, you aren't so nervous.

Mom checks up on you most of the time, since Dad has a busy job. But in your town, you've made new friends and are living a great new life.

Maybe all towns are connected by one train line, and each town is like a "county" with it's own unique land and villagers.

I never saw it as anything scary dark, but the darker headcanons are interesting.

My theory is that we are all gyroids, which would explain why we can't actually speak, and only make a few little noises when expressing ourselves, much like a gyroid does through singing. The skin of other humans gets layered over our faces, but if we haven't been outside for a long while, it begins to rot, and our real faces are revealed. But, they must've done a better job of keeping the skin stuck to our faces in the most recent instalments.

The "everything is a dream" is applicable to every single story you can think of. I'm personally glad the Dream Suite exists, to cut off any connectivity with it.

I always figured the human character was part of some experiment. Like in the future the humanoid animals have become the dominant species, and humans were wiped out as a result of it. So wanting to bring back humans a team of scientist create the human villager and then put him in a train while he's asleep and let him wake up to see a talking cat. How else can you explain why he didn't freak out the moment he saw a talking cat or why he cant really speak or just wakes up on a train with no money or items.

If I had to pick a theory, I like the idea that this is a very post apocalyptic world where humans are really rare and coexist with animals that mutated to be humanoids.

Or, y'know, this is just a world where this is normal and no strange theories are necessary.

Dr. Creeper's is actually is the most likely reason but hey, it's still fun to mess around.

I actually really liked this theory that the players who come to town are dead. Sort of an afterlife world. I think it's the sweetest.

I don't really know about the dream or death theories, but some things that have made me curious about the situation of the town is, when Gulliver talks about going to Peru he says there's llamas there. Then he says something like "Blue and pink llamas that talk? No no llamas can't talk! And they're white!" Which is weird cause he's a talking seagull.
Another thing relating to Gulliver is, I'm playing the Japanese version, and his name is "Johnny" and he talks like Japan's stereotype of a white foreigner. Like saying "Oh mai goddo!" and random English words thrown in. His speech is written out in katakana, which is usually only used for foreign words and makes it seem like he has a strange accent.
I was talking to one of my villagers on a day he was there and they said "Someone's on the beach who speaks Japanese with a weird accent.". They said "Japanese", instead of just saying "he speaks with a weird accent". Which places the town in Japan.
Which is weird because Gulliver can visit Japan, which is somewhere else.
Basically Gulliver confuses me.
It makes me think the town is in an alternate universe or something lol.
