Where are our villagers hiding the grocery store they’re all using?

My villagers disappear all the time and because of this thread I’m making a store for them to disappear to

They drinking from cans and throw it to the river/ocean once a day i cought a can!

For real though, I want the food and drinks too. I hope we can have a grocery store. Maybe they can be like fruits, Eat them, and you'll get energy!

Our villagers keep talking about various kinds of foods but we never really see them make it. The Nooks Cranny definitely isn't a grocery store. Perhaps they fly out occasionally to get the ingredients? But another question arises: Where exactly do they go if that's the case? The mainland? The other islands in the distance?
