Hey guys!!

So recently I noticed the entry fee for selling turnips on some islands got.. extremely high... a few days ago the normal entry fee I saw the most of was 99k bells or 1-3 NMT for a 300-500 price. Then over the past 2 days, I’ve seen fees for the same prices around 5-10 NMT or 300-600k bells. When did they get so high?

I mean,, 5-10 NMT for an entry fee sounds kinda overpriced, especially if the amount per turnip is only around 300 bells. Maybe it’s just me?

Am I the only one who’s kinda annoyed by this lmao

Because people are selling a different number of turnips, I think it would be more fair to ask for a percentage in tip. when I visit, I try to leave 10% in my earnings. If the day ever comes that I get a high turnip price, I'd honestly just let people in for free though

There was a thread about this a few days ago and I'm just gonna say what I said in that thread.

Personally I dont charge entry fees but I understand why people do them. If someone wants to charge an entry fee because they're spending time managing their queue, letting people in and out, etc, they're allowed to.

It's their time and there are plenty of towns that let people in for free/smaller entry fees.

people are just goddamn greedy. while I do support some type of tip because they are taking their time to do this some just go extremely overboard. its also the same with cataloging. while i have not seen that here on discord its ridiculous but ive found some either cheap or affordable ones.

Many people feel the way you feel. Best advice is to not participate if you don’t agree with it. There are others who won’t do that just have to seek them out. Also resulting from this is to now we have two different subforums The Airport for free visit/ general hanging out the new sub being Dodo Business class for visit that have fees. So now its hopefully will be easier to sort through them

Because there are people who are willing to pay it. I personally wouldn't pay that much to go to someone's town and I don't really play the stalk market but I don't fault people for making the easy money. Sure it's greedy but unfortunately that's life. Lol.

Its all the nook mile island's fault for having villagers appear on those islands which is why people want NMTs in the first place.

It makes me sick seeing these fees, making it harder to sell my turnips.

Whenever I do a sale in my town, a villager is crafting something, I have a high turnip price, etc, I will let people know they can leave a tip if they ever so choose to do so. They don't have to, but it's nice if they did.

Yea I get the reason for entry fees and I respect them 100%, I’m just curious why they rose so much in the past few days- They used to be around 1-3 NMT but now some people are asking for 10 NMT on an island with a selling price of 300- Does anyone know why they rose so much recently?

a lot of prices just seem over inflated right now. i personally on charge an entry fee because I've seen how chaotic it can get with a bunch of people wanting to come to the island at once. but its usually only 1-2nmt. I always feel kind of exploited with the higher entry fees but i get why they charge so high. if there's a high demand for something, you can charge higher prices and that's just how things go :/

I had great prices last week, and enough time to be open for a while. I let people in for free. I still managed to make 3+ million bells because of people kindly tipping. And the people who didn't tip, that was fine too. Or the people who brought other things to tip with also fine. Charging a required fee is kind of messed up, but the truth is, nobody is forcing anyone to go to those islands. And you're probably going to find someone doing it for free if you look hard enough.

(Now I just need prices like that again, since I paid off the greedy Nook in full XD)

Probably because someone paid that amount and now they trying to see if others will do it too.

I usually go with 10% (or 1 nmt per visit if thats what they request) especially if you're making nonstop visits back to back in a town with 500+.
I've seen that some people will tip nothing or tip 10k making multiple trips...which actually made me feel less anxious about tipping because I wasn't sure if doing 10% when I visit soemone was considered low. I can see why people specify tip amounts for that reason but obviously the example you gave is obscene.

The turnip exchange site has def made letting people in easier to some extent. There are some cons (you want to let only 3 in at a time but obv once a previous person has the code they can still keep coming clogging up how many are there).
Fencing also has improved things because I can section off just that area and don't have to worry about a lot of unknown people cycling in and out. Because of these things, I don't set requirements for tips but if I had to do individual invites/manage messages then yea..I could see otherwise.

Even with those tools, people are taking the time to keep the game on and open for people to come so. Obviously there are people that charge very high but I just avoid those posts.

Once one person starts asking for super high tips and people actually pay up, others realise its a thing they can do. And on goes the cycle i guess.
Honestly i get it, you want to make a little extra money, but at the same time thats just?? not worth it imo

I don't support those with outrages prices, only those that have reasonable prices or those that let others enter for free (I always tip those people 10-15% of turnip earnings). I think the reason for high entry fees is that some of those that are hosting find it a chore to let so many people in. Even that though, is not the best way to go about it, it's not fair to those selling just a few turnips. Imo, if you find it a chore or if it stresses you out taking in so many people, then you shouldn't force yourself to open your airport. If anything, give a limit of how many or how long you'll take in visitors.

I think one of the people I saw allowing people in set a requirement of "if you are making 1 trip a tip isn't required, but 2+ trips you must tip xyz).
I thought that was fair and a decent condition to set. Though, it wouldn't really matter for me because I always tip every trip and would feel weird not even if just one.

I've never done more than one trip before, but that does sound fair. I'd tip them all the same, on both trips as well. I'd imagine taking the same person more than once could be a hassle, as that visitor might come in and out while the host is sending dodo codes to new visitors. I guess it depends how you go about letting those entering more than once.

Just greed in general. Easy money just by AFKing and taking the entry fees. I deadass saw some chump asking 10NMT with their 198 bells buying price LOL.

I'll tell my experience hosting.
I currently host using that known turnip website and some discords. I only host for turnip prices above 550.

I used to host turnips for free. People would troll (staying on menu so people don't leave, blocking paths, dc on purpose, etc.), trumple/pick flower petals, never leave after ("i want to look at your able sisters/hunt south hemisphere critters"/etc), people stealing tips others left, people who think they can come 30 times over and "forget" there's a 50 people line, and so on.
Then I started to charge 1NMT entry. Fenced everything (i hated doing that, but i was just so tired of the trouble). Got much less trolls but still some. Also still a massive amount of requests I just couldn't deal with.
Decided to charge 2NMT, and it was much more manageable. Could deal with everyone without utterly chaos.
Then, in the last 2 hour or so, I come here and host for free, because this forum usually has much more well behaved users and I enjoy giving back to this community (discord/turnip site is too anonymous for that).

That being said, I don't think charging 5-10NMT is a fair price, because it's not very profitable to sell turnips then. But I can understand if that's motivated by people wanting to really limit their requests to a manageable rate while still getting profit, and, if people are willing to pay, there will definitely people willing to charge for it.
