What's the point of KK Slider?

Why should I bother listening to him when I can just buy his music from the shop? I'm serious I'm quite confused.

Edit: read most of the comments which I'm thankful for, guess I should've mentioned that I've been an ac fan since new leaf and since I did learn about the franchise's history and past offerings including the importance of the kk slider character and his role in it, and I get the whole appeal of the virtual live concert option this game gives us, all that good stuff I'm aware of. my question was simply asking if there's something beneficial or rewarding to the player in the same sense as talking daily to Sable for example. I got my answers so thank you again and I do apologize if the thread topic gave any negative vibes. I did not expect more than a couple answers honestly haha.

You can request specific songs from KK Slider instead of waiting for it to appear in the shop. There's also some exclusive songs that you can only obtain from KK direcly, like Animal City or Drivin'.

There are some secret songs you can only get by requesting them to K.K. to play. Also, it's easier to get all of the music when you can request any that you are missing instead of waiting for them to show up in Nook shopping. K.K. has been a part of AC from the beginning and is an iconic character in the series, so he's not going to be taken out.

When K.K. is performing on Saturday night, talk to him and ask for "that one song". Then type in "Animal City". It's case and punctuation sensitive, so you have to type it in exactly correct.

after 6 pm on saturday, when k k slider's playing, talk to him and he'll ask you how you want to request your song: pick the 'give me that one song ...' option, and you'll be able to type in the song of your choosing! i'm unsure if it's case-sensitive or not, but it doesn't hurt to type the song title properly to be sure.

The point is that it’s a super cute concert with a lovable NPC! Also it allows you to choose which songs you want to help you complete your collection which can be pretty helpful Oh and there are secret songs too!

kk slider has always been a big part of the games. :+) sure you can buy the song through nook shopping, but hearing the live version and watching the cut scene is so nice. sitting with a villager you love n listening to a new or old beloved song is just special imo!!​

At this point for me it's just about hearing the songs live. I haven't been ordering songs, either, because I like having this thing to look forwards to every Saturday evening. I haven't been requesting songs, either. I just let him pick one. So far I seem to have randomly gotten all of the tribal and exotic tunes. None of the relaxing ones I wanted, but that's fine! I'll get them eventually.

I also love hearing him sing in the background during the daytime on Saturday.

Actually, they changed this in New Horizons. K.K. will always visit you on your birthday and hand out K.K. Birthday to you on that same day. During his concert, you'll see birthday messages from some of your villagers and other human players from your town. People can only leave messages for you during concerts that take place before your birthday, most likely after its date is publicly announced on the bulletin board (that was the case with my brother when he requested a song before my birthday). I'm not sure if online friends can leave him messages though.
