So I’ve returned to the site after a while, but even back then I wasn’t a master trader on the site or anything.

When trading in-game, what is some general etiquette to go by? Forum-wise and game-wise.

I’m asking because I’d really like to get back into trading here, but I just want to know the up-to-date things that people do. Also is giving feedback still relevant?

I'd say the main things are to just be patient, clear, and respectful. I haven't really gotten back into trading villagers yet from when I did it back with New Leaf, but I don't think much has changed from then

When I trade I always make sure to say hello and thank you, and if they’re coming to my island I have the items already on the ground so to not keep them waiting!
Another etiquette tip is to try to be quick and not linger because sometimes people have other trades lined up. Sometimes people ask me to look around my town during a trade and I always feel bad saying no if I’m busy, so it’s best to ask beforehand and not in-game!
Leaving feedback is always nice too ^^

avoid running around in peoples towns and NEVER be out of view from them

I personally think you should ask. Some of the things people say not to do here would stress me out, lmao.

Like, if people expected me to escort them to every area they were allowed to go in my town which is everywhere, I'd lose my ****. I'd also hate it if they walked nice and slow, when grass wear isn't a thing in New Horizons, and flowers can't be perma - exploded into non existence.

When in doubt, inquire. Otherwise, if there are no set rules they have laid out, I would honestly just assume going about your business is just fine.

Sure you COULD do that.... if you want bad feedback.
Back in the ACNL days if you ran in ppls town you would get bad feedback left on your profile.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Standard etiquette is if you're a visitor, you do not run to pick up the trade item. You stand to a side and drop your item. THEN you go over to pick up the trade item.

If you're the host, you drop your trade item either before the visitor comes or while the visitor is dropping their item. That way, you're both taking your trade items at the same time and it maintains trust.

Giving feedback is important because it helps let other people here know that the person you traded with is honest and trustworthy (if the trade went smoothly with no problems). If the other person steals from you or misbehaves in some way, you want to leave negative feedback to alert others that the person is not trustworthy. In general, I'd advise against trading with anyone whose feedback rating isn't at or very close to 100%. It's not that hard to do it the right way and you usually have to do something really disrespectful to get a negative rating.

Generally a good idea but feedback is broken atm on the site.

Just ask before you do anything other than what the person you are trading with actually said you are allowed to do. For example, in ACNL I never let people run - even if it's on paths because they might destroy flowers and I get stressed out by that kind of stuff. I also agree with giving back feedback. It's nice just to write a little message to someone and leave positive feedback on their page, as in future other people will trust that person more after reading what they are like when they do things in game.

Which is why I said to ask.
People back in NL didn't want you to run because grass wear was a thing, and flowers exploded permanently. None of this happens now.

I don't want people taking 900 years in my town and making me escort them. So it's best to just ask. I'd be more frustrated following this " general " etiquette than otherwise.

Yeah, I'm not gonna ask every person i trade with whats ok and whats not in their town. I could potentially do up to 100 trades a day. That would be a big waste of time for me and everybody involved.

I just lay out that you can run in my town, and that I don't care. Just don't pick up items I leave on the ground, I can't help that I'm a disorganized mess, lol. Could care less if people pluck flowers, you can't plant them and they grow back.

Should do that before you have any visitors anyway.
