What's something in a non-horror game that creeped you out or scared you? (Wether or not it was intentionally scary or unintentionally scary.)

I remember when I was very little (like 4 or 5 I think) my family owned an OG Xbox, one thing I remember about it was when you would leave the Xbox on the console's operating system, these strange futuristic alien like sounds would play in the background. They really creeped me out considering how the menu didn't have background music if I remember, so hearing the sounds out of nowhere scared me out a ton. Apparently I learned the reason those sounds were placed in the OS was to make the Xbox sound more futuristic or something. I'm not scared of the sounds anymore obviously but I think the reason they creeped me out so much is that the first time I noticed them was because like a lot of little kids my age, I would wake up at the most random hours in the night and just play with toys and stuff until my parents would force me to go back to bed, but anyways one night at around 4 or 3 in the morning I remember walking into the living room, my dad was sleeping on the couch and the Xbox and the TV were still on, it was completely dark besides the light coming from the TV, and while I was walking over to the kitchen the sounds from the Xbox began to play, it creeped me out a ton and I went back to my room as quickly and as quietly as a could to avoid waking up my dad. I think that was also one of my earliest memories with anything video game related lol.

I was like 5 or 6 when we first got a GameCube. Various things scared me that were not meant to be horror, though I guess a couple were meant to be negative to deter you from turning it off without saving.

For some reason the sound the GameCube makes if you turn it on without a disk inside freaked me out so much. I don’t really know why exactly, I guess it just sounded like something going wrong.

And then Animal Crossing actually had a couple of these things. Both the gyroid face that happened if you turned it off while visiting another town, and Resetti coming and yelling at you for turning off in your own town freaked me out so bad. Like “oh god I messed up and it’s all ruined and everything is my fault” 😭😂 The gyroid face really was so creepy looking, I’m not sure why they ever did that cuz I don’t think I was alone in being scared by that. Guess it makes sense they got rid of that part.

In most recent memory, I was watching a workout(?) video and the camera was just panning around the room, when a poster of Arnold Schwarzenegger suddenly came into view. I can't believe I got jumpscared by a poster.

The Wii Fit Plus game Lotus Focus. For those who don’t know it’s a game where you have to sit on the balance board and focus on the candle on the screen the whole thing is mostly super quiet except for ambient sound effects…but if it detects you getting distracted (i guess this is if you move too much) a voice yells “CUT!” And a giant white kanji pops up on the screen. I’ve never been able to do that game without sabotaging my score by screaming and running out of the room ^^;

A memory just occurred to me of when I was in middle school, and playing Sims 2. I made my family in the game. And then somehow one night after all the sims went to bed, some kind of glitch happened where both the sims of my parents would not get out of bed no matter what I did. It was so scary I stopped playing that save and never opened it again, or made my family in any future Sims games. Too much emotion if something goes wrong

I played Spec Ops the Line and coming across victims of white phosphorous creeped me out. In Dragon Age Inquisition, there was one scene with the red lyrium that reminded me of that too. The beginning of Metal Gear Solid the Phantom Pain; it was a huge difference from the other Metal Gear Solid games that I played so it took me by surprise. Ground Zero: what happened to Paz disturbed me (and also another scene in the Phantom Pain). When I watched my ex (boyfriend at the time) play the Twin Snakes on Gamecube, a scene with one of the bosses, Raven creeped me out too. I watched a friend play We Happy Few and that game was really creepy.

any variant of yoshi "deaths" in Yoshi Story, ESPECIALLY if you get crushed by any obstacle it's just so sudden
and when yoshi's health is low he starts hyperventilating when he's idle and his health meter flower is panicking
not to mention you get swept away by enemies into what i imagine is the dungeon of a creepy castle
this gave lil' me the creeps shoot i still don't like this when on the random times i pick up this game 🤣

Oh my god Yoshis island was one of the scariest games for me because of the crying mario baby. It was just so creepy to know okay I need to get it or else it will get taken away.

Now after rewatching it, it doesn't same bad at all lmao

The summer spiders and scorpions in ac wild world lmao. I was like 11 back then? Really creeped me out
The first time I ever learned about either of them was when my friend first encountered a scorpion. She had just walked out of Redd’s tent, and as she was walking away a scorpion chased her down, and hit her and she of course passed out and woke up in front of her house. We were in late elementary school at this time, don’t remember exactly how old. She was CONVINCED she had somehow made Redd mad and he had sent them after her and tried to kill her. Obviously in reality it was random and she must have had her net out or something but we literally didn’t even know these were a feature of the game, and then we were BOTH scared of Redd til like middle school when I started going on AC wikis and learned how they actually worked.

mario drowning in 64 was pretty gnarly lol

and not official but the anti-piracy screens that were going around a couple years back gave me the creeps too 😅

Fable. The Grey House. It's not a horror game and I don't scare easily. I'ma be honest though that I dread doing this part.

The quest involves going to an abandoned house where a murder took place. You have to flash a light three times and the murder victim will appear on the map across from you as a ghost.

The area is empty. There are no NPC's aside from her.

Maybe it's just the game being old, but it gives me a bad vibe.

I actually jumped near the end of the haunted house level in Kirby Triple Deluxe when the piano became possessed and started attacking Kirby because it was so unexpected. Same thing happened in Paper Mario Sticker Star when the Stapler thing jumps out of the window in the hallway.

-This scifi-isk level in Gamecube's Ice Age: the meltdown. When your inside of a creature and have to defeat eye monsters, with gross body sounds in the background.

-The Worm tree in Gamecube's Madagascar.

-That sci-fi level in Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. I'm honestly still too scared to play that level.

-The mall in Zanki Zero

-That level in Poptropica with a light house where a lady speaks to you in a human voice out of no where. It got me good when I first played it.
