What's a bump?

Um what's a bump? I see auctions and such doing this all the time:
Current bid is 100k.

So can anyone explain?

Bumping isn't to be used all the time, there is a certain waiting time before you can bump a topic/auction.

I've seen people bump more often than that. I'll admit, I have, because I didn't know it was every 24 hours. o.o

I didn't read the rules until my 3rd day, when it occurred to me, "Ooh, I think I should probably read the rules! XD" and must've skipped the bump rule on accident.
