As for what they would replace... Maybe the durians? Idk, I just think that the durians aren't particularly nice looking.

Actually, lychees & durians fit surprising good together when planted in a vertical row, in an 3:1 ratio.
Mango is the one that should be replaced by something else.

I think lychees and persimmons look too similar to cherries and oranges, but I think that may have been purposeful to make the maze tour on the island more difficult. I also find it a little strange that durians, lychees, and persimmons were the new tropical fruits, since I'd never heard of the last two before New Leaf and I only know the first one from neopets...

I like durians, I think they have a distinctive enough look. I don't like how persimmons and lychees look so much like oranges and cherries, but it does playing the maze tour on the island more fun the first few times you do it. I've never thought about replacing any of the fruits, I guess.
