If you have that innovation/creative side, take a screenshot with your map showing (not inventory), and upload it to miiverse. Put it in a program such as paint or photoshop and enlarge it a bit. At this point you could:
a) Put a grid on it and plan for future homes, areas, projects, trees, whatever. It's also really easy to cut and paste the grass parts of the map so you can cover non-temporary items such as a villager's home so it won't appear as you work for the long-term.
b) Print it out and decorate it. Make it yours. Create something you're proud of and translate that into your town. The ACNL wiki has renders of every PWP project so you could even put those into a document and print them or write names of all the flowers you want to have and how to breed them. Something like a mood board I guess?
If you don't want to do that I recommend:
a) TT -- just a little. When you start a new game for the second time you usually want to get right into it. That can be hard waiting around for a day or two when you have the momentum to start now. TT just enough so that you have your permit and are officially out of the *introduction* stage.
b) Browse Pinterest or Tumblr for screenshots and stories of others' and their towns. It can serve as great inspiration for your own.
