Bells

I just got scammed by someone and lost 50 tbt. Took me forever to get that many bells. Extremely sad :(

Leave a negative rating and try talking to the moderators. I'm sure they will help you.
I'm sorry about that experience, though!

Oh no! If it was in game items or Bells I could help you replace it for free if you'd like. If it was a villager, I can keep an eye out? I'm so sorry this happened to you!

Give them a negative rating and say what they did in the short message box! That way anyone who checks their wifi rating will see it. Don't let that go unpunished, I can't believe there are scammers here.

Also, keep an eye out for Wifi ratings! If they don't have one, stay on the safe side and don't trust them. Wait for an offer from a trusted person with positive feedback. I know everyone starts somewhere, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I was trading TBT for IGB for the first time and they never responded to me or added my friend code back after I gave them the bells. It shows that they already spent it.

Definitely wait for them to at least add you back. Not sure if you trust someone after that, but if you need IGB, I got loads. Just give me a number and I can help you out tomorrow. PM me if you want me to.

This. Its always worth a try to get a mod involved. Especially if tbt is involved they will sometimes get involved. Sometimes you hav to contact like a few. Try oblivia maybe?

And at the very least leave a negative feedback so other peopl dont get scammed. Sorry this happened to you. :(

It costs 10 tbt but you can buy a bell correction in the shop tab to get the remaining amount back. I haven't used it but I think it takes about a week since its monitored by forum moderators. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Whenever you agree to buy something with TBT, you should make the other person come to your town first (or arrive in that person's town first) before giving them the TBT. If the person insists on payment in advance, don't trade with that person. There is no reason why someone would need payment in advance unless that person is trying to scam you.

Try contacting Oblivia, one of the moderators, and tell her what has happened, and send her screenshots of your messages with the person. She's very nice and can help you with this.

I am not aware if anyone else has said this, but your main priority should be contacting a staff member on the forums, if you can verify that you where scammed and your story checks out, your bells most likely will be returned and the member who scammed you will recive a warning..
Goodluck!

I have to disagree with you on this. It is much easier to replace TBT by contacting a moderator than replacing an in game item.
I always have people pay in advance before selling something.

Yes, but there's a difference between having someone pay while they're in your town or a minute before to make sure you don't get scammed, and having someone pay before you even have exchanged FCs or anything else.

I only will pay people in advance if they have good ratings/ a good reason for being paid in advance. Otherwise, as soon as I get to the town and verify they have the items, that's when I give them the payment.

edit: it's really easy for the host to simply cut the wifi or send the person back home if they misbehave. for the visitor, they don't have a simple solution if someone scams them before the transaction is made.

I meant that I wait until I arrive at the seller's town or the seller arrives at my town before I transfer the TBT. I do transfer the TBT before the item is actually exchanged. I won't accept trades where the seller tells me "I'll have the order ready in an hour, but please give me the TBT now." Delayed trades can fall through for any number of reasons, so I don't think it is an unreasonable demand that the other person shows up with the goods before I just start handing over TBT. I've fortunately never had to deal with any scams, but I'd imagine that it would be difficult to get back TBT from a scam since it can turn into a he said, she said thing when the mods get involved.

I'm sorry this happened :( I really cannot understand somebody scamming anybody....are they that desperate for virtual money they have to lie and make somebody else feel bad to obtain it?
Well, I don't understand people generally.
The only time I ask for advance payment is when selling villagers, I always say send Tbt when you're ready to come over and by that time I have the gates open which they can check. Even sending Tbt once you're in someone's town is no guarenteed sadly, since they can just end the session before you get your items :(
I've had people try that one on me before....
It's a horrible feeling, I would also suggest contacting a mod or at least leaving a negative feedback rating.

Whoever they are it's obviously an alternate account collecting TBT to send to their main account as soon as they receive the TBT. Too mods can see your transaction/currency logs so it'll probably sorted with soon
May I ask if they ever gave you a friend code?

Yup, just like the others said; report them, tell a mod.
I'm pretty sure the mods will give you TBT back c;
