Thanksgiving is next week for me, and it got me thinking about how my family has been pretty consistent with the big Thanksgiving meal we have. My parents usually host it, and my mother almost always makes a Turkey with roasted garlic, along with mushroom gravy, mash potatoes and carrots as a the usual sides (sometimes we have more, but those two are always there). Dessert is almost always sticky toffee pudding too. It's a solid meal, and they have tried a few other recipes on occasion (we did ham maybe once or twice, and duck a l'orange once or twice as well to change it up), but we seem pretty at on the same turkey recipe. I've honestly wanted to try a new turkey recipe, but my whole family is too attached to the one with roasted garlic so I feel like I haven't even tried turkey another way. 😅

I'm curious what other people's Thanksgiving meals are if they celebrate it! Whether it's a meal that's become a tradition, something you only tried once or twice, and if you love or hate it. :>

Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole (good stuff!), sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and dinner rolls.

Dessert is apple or pumpkin pie. Or sometimes both!

Turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, corn, Lima beans, deviled eggs, rolls.

Deserts, pecan pumpkin roll with sweet cream cheese and apple pie

This’ll be a tough year, as it’ll be the first without my step dad, so mom decided we were going to go to Dallas to a game instead. It’s going to be very bittersweet as I personally would rather visit my home where I feel he still is, but I know how very hard it’ll be in my mom, so I’m good with whatever she wants to do.

My mom is fantastic at making some kind of traditional Thanksgiving meal every year. Usually turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted veggies, etc. I really could not keep it up year after year like she does.

So, we don't really celebrate Thanksgiving here, but I have always been interested to know what people do eat at Thanksgiving! Definitely sounds tasty, for sure.
Is it normal to have mash potatoes and turkey? It almost reminds me of our roast dinners we have but we have roast poatoes instead of mashed.
Can't wait to read more!

Thanksgiving is next week for me,
Where do you live where Thanksgiving is in early October? I thought it was an American tradition in late November.

All the food though is great and heartwarming, and belt loosening.

Thanksgiving is in October in Canada! :> It always falls on a Monday, though we often have our dinner on Sunday before since it’s the most convenient.

Turkey is definitely pretty standard for Thanksgiving! I'd say that's the most common Thanksgiving meal, and mash potatoes are a classic side to have with it, along with various other sides, which a few users have mentioned already. Stuffing is one side we usually have which I forgot to list in the OP, but that's definitely a favourite for me personally. I'd say ham is common variant alongside turkey, at least in my experience.

My family doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, but my grandma used to, I think we had ham for dinner, I don't remember well since I was just eating the pumpkin soup and went to play right after. There were always a lot of desserts, like maple sugar pie, steamed cake, blueberries pie, molasse cookies, ice cream and donuts. It was nothing big, not like American Thanksgiving.

I may convince my family to cook a turkey this year with cranberry sauce.

my family and i usually eat ham and mashed potatoes every year! the other dishes range each year. i think we tried turkey once and then just switched back to chicken instead. last year we also had noodles and lobster tails, and the previous year we had ribs. ham and mashed potatoes are our thanksgiving “staples” i guess

I live in Murica, not Canada, so Thanksgiving for me isn’t until November. Based off what I can remember, usually we just have turkey, mashed potatoes, some Nigerian foods like this, and mac and cheese (sometimes with crushed up crackers sprinkled on it). Mostly just the typical stuff. We never usually have pies or anything for dessert.

we don’t really celebrate thanksgiving my family, but in the past few years my mom has tried making a turkey cause she wanted to try it out. we’ll sometimes get a store bought pumpkin or pecan pie cause it’s usually displayed in the grocery stores. i don’t know if we’ll have turkey this year but it’s usually just nice to have the extra day off and rest with family c:

My family makes a lot of food for Thanksgiving, I can't even remember everything.. Turkey with homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, those Pillsbury croissant rolls, candied yams, some cranberry thing straight out of a can, and like a billion other things. I haven't had a Thanksgiving meal ever since moving to Australia unfortunately but this year while I'm here in the US we're gonna have an early Thanksgiving which I am excited about

We usually have Turkey (I don't like it), ham (I love it), stuffing, mashed potatoes, pie (pumpkin or apple), dinner rolls, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and canned cranberry sauce. Yum!

i don't do thanksgiving anymore, but when we did, i really disliked turkey. i've never known anyone to make a good turkey except for my old bosses wife- we got stuck working thanksgiving (thanks gamestop) and she made us all dinner. that was probably the best thanksgiving dinner ive ever had, theyve been flops since.

I usually have 2 thanksgiving dinners. I spend thanksgiving eve (is that a thing? idk) with my in laws and they usually have the traditional thanksgiving food; turkey with stuffing and gravy, ham, mash potatoes, sweet potato casserole (the one with marshmallows), potato / pasta / mac salad, some form of veggies (it varies yearly), and pumpkin pie with cool whip for dessert. Sometimes my MIL might make some lumpia and pancit as well. On thanksgiving day I spend with my side at my mom’s house and we usually do hot pot. The ingredients we add changes, but usually it consists of a variety of different veggies and meats / tofu / seafood, and noodles.

My family is pretty typical too, Turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce usually carrots and peas for veggies and then usually if we have dessert its apple and pumpkin pie :>
