And also, how do you find out what the IV of a certain Pokemon is? I finally decided to start getting into this stuff instead of just collecting, and it's a bit of a struggle. I've been googling and none of the answers that I've found have been very clear to me. Summer is getting to my brain, I guess, so I'm just not getting it. Could someone please explain it to me? (:

it stnds for individual value which ranges from 0-31. the higher the number, the better the pokemon will be in that stat (obviously 31 being the best)
to find IV's you can either use an IV calculator online, or speak to the man in Kiloude City pokemon center and he will tell you (though he wont gives you numbers, he'll tell you how much potential the pokemon has in that stat).

im not great on IV's so thats probably a bad explanation but I'm sure someone else could add more information to help you out :)

To answer your question to find your IV's of a certain pokemon, in Pokemon X and Y, at Kiloude (I think that's how you spell it) City's Pokemon Center, a man can tell you the value of your pokemon. If he says "Stats like those... They simply can't be beat!"
That means your pokemon probably has perfect IVS (31) or near it (30)

An IV (which stands for Individual Value) is basically a modifier for a stat and all pokemon has the basic 6 IVS (HP,ATK,DEF,SP.ATK,SP.DEF,SPEED) The lowest IV you can get is 0 while the highest is 31. Basically the higher the IV you have, the higher or stronger that particular stat will be. These changes aren't the most noticeable but it will change how you will win games against other players who have breeded their pokemon as well. Say if you had a HP IV of 31 compared to a 0 HP IV, the HP stat would be higher than having a 0 IV of a HP stat (ex: HP:0 = 232 / HP:31 = 264)

If you have any other questions, we can discuss this through PMS

Thank you guys so much!

Derp. I just responded to your other thread. I might as well copy and paste it here.

You see how a Pokemon has six different stats?

Hp
Attack
Defense
Sp. Attack
Sp. Defense
Speed

When you breed a pokemon each stat has a random number from 1-31 which CAN'T be changed. When someone says a Pokemon has an IV it means they have a stat that has 31 points in it basically. Thanks to the friend safari every time you catch a Pokemon in there you have a garaunteed two IV's on a Pokemon or two perfect stats. Breeding two pokemon with perfect IV's increases the chances of perfect IV's being passed down as long as a parent is holding a Destiny Knot.

Click here for a larger image. I know this seems like a lot to take in but its simple enough that a person who has never IV bred or EV train can understand. Pokemon X/Y was the first time I ever did.

Haha sorry, I realized that not very many people were on that board. Thank you guys, you all rock. You're so much better at explaining this than Google.
