what happens if a villager pings you to move after time travelling a bunch (7 days), and you go back in time?

so i've got lionel out of my island and he's gonna be boxed tomorrow. i need his plot to get a villager from my boyfriend, BUT i need to know if his plot will still be open should i go back right after he tells me he's dipping (ie, before he's boxed).
