What exactly does turning off the street pass feature do?

I had an incident where I picked up one of my voids, yay, by using my spare ds to move a villager to a different cart and I had a 3rd party holder but there was error she was voided but having both my machines local near each other helped...however.

After I finish my current town dreams and set up a new last dream of hold town for villagers that are dreams but have no space for, I do not want to accidentally be picking up voiders from myself, never have from another but this instance was good but can see where could be trouble down the line. Especially as after the dream quest is done I am setting up a fresh challenge town just to get back into the game as it comes, or a cycle. But if not a cycle Or until I want to avoid picking up other voids I may have forgotten and don't want back.

So will turning off the feature for street pass on both devices do anything more than stop this from happening, ex messing with trades or online exchanges..I believe I always had the feature off until recently where was trying between my towns and never had an issue but it may have always been on and having two may require it off...As I've never picked up a voider and have a fianc? who plays local when here as well should I just shut street pass down without side effects for normal trades?

Thanks...I know is a tech question but only relating to new leaf here so figured someone would know if pass off is why even before had two or local never got a voider from internet trades. Hope that last part simplifies question, safer to turn off?

People can still give you voided villagers even if your Streetpass is turned off as long as they visit your town. If the people who visited your town from the Internet had their void cleared then they wouldn't give you any villagers. If you have Streetpass turned off you will lost the ability to pick up villagers from people you Streetpass, and you won't get any houses in your happy Home Showcase.

Thanks, I never really used the home showcase am probably missing out..I don't take the ds out with me much as I usually won't be playing while out but I will likely leave it on unless have both machines running for a cart move which is rare especially nearing the end only a few more to move, a few to find homes for, a few dream finals left, a town to build, and done with a over year long project.
