What does Katie do?

My brothers originally had Katie amongst them, and eventually she was brought to my town. I noticed her today and she asked to travel (took her to a fellow forumer's town). Once I got there she thanked me for the trip, and walked away.

Does she do anything other than make you want to travel to new towns?

She'll send you a gift in the mail that thanks you for helping her. Other than that, I don't think so.
