What do 5 stars at the top of your thread mean?

As it may seem obious I am new to this site and this is a question that I just thought of while looking at my selling forum. What do 5 stars at the top right corner mean?

It means that people have rated it and it got 5 out of 5 stars, you rate a thread by clicking on "rate this thread" above the top post in a thread.

There is little purpose in the stars since usually only one or two people bother to do it. And often people rate things 1 star for trolling purposes only.
