I reset today, again, (for the 100th time) and I've had this thought. The first day of Animal Crossing is SO boring. I mean, it's exciting to load up that new map and see who your villagers are and all, but I can't really think of any other things to do. I pretty much go to the shops, talk to Isabelle about advice, make my down-payment, and that's it. ):

From my first boot-up of the game to the completed payment was 54 minutes. Idek.

I just restarted my town today, too, and I have been fishing and catching bugs all day today, talking to all my villagers seeing if they need anything, etc.

Nothing much. I just tried to catch bugs and hit a money rock and get to know my villagers. But instead of using all the money for my loan I just bought clothes and furniture.

Also, I did something really weird on my first day. It was a dumb mistake.
I had just gotten my DS that day so I had to put in all the settings first. I forgot how it was supposed to be military time, so I put the time in as 5:00, not 17:00 even though it was 5:00PM not AM. When I loaded up my game, it was super dark as if it was nighttime. I thought this was odd, as it's not supposed to get dark at 5:00PM in June. Then when I went to get my house, Nooks Homes was the only thing open. And right after I planted my town tree, all my villagers went into their houses saying they had gone to sleep. Even Retail was closed. Then I actually looked at my in game clock and it told me it was 5:00AM not PM. Then after I was allowed to save I immediately changed the time on my system clock. I know, it was stupid. But I thought I'd share my weird first day playing.

after pitching tent location, walked around exploring land.

i shook all my cherry trees, ate like 6 cherries, collected mushrooms and ate all of them.

sold rest of cherries. went to beach, collected all the shells, sold them all.

I remember I easily had my 10k for Nook ready within a short time just by gathering up pears and seashells. I bought whatever tools I could get hold of, and I think I lucked out on a fishing rod because I had one my first day? Which made payments a cinch, because I caught a bunch of fish with it. And when Isabelle gave me advice and I followed it, I planted the peaches she gave me and managed to get my watering can and a net from her.

I was off to a decent start, but then again, by my second day, a friend dropped by with flowers (hybrids), fruits, bamboo shoots, and silver tools because she had had the game almost three months longer than I did. :')

Oh, that does remind me - I spent most of the time rearranging my flowers by types into patterns to get hybrids. It worked, I had an orange cosmos on my second day.

My first day of ACNL really was my first day because I'd never played an AC game before :) I remember I bought a fishing rod because it was available and basically spent the rest of the time fishing and harassing villagers until they started telling me to go away. I suppose if you know what you're doing you could do the tutorial stuff for Isabelle and get the other tool. I didn't know about that and didn't get a net for several days because the Nooks wouldn't stock it.

So bugs, fish, maybe pick up the free flowers and rearrange them, maybe draw some basic patterns for paths. There isn't anything else you can do at that point really! I don't think Nintendo mean Animal Crossing to be a game you spend hours on every day (hence villagers telling you you're tired/take a break/stop bothering them), so it's probably intentional that the first day's a bit empty.

^ yeah i think i read somewhere the game designer saying something like its a game meant to be played for a short amount of time every day. I usually only play for about 30 or less mins a day unless i have a big project to work on like moving trees, or its a money earning day (lots of fishing/island hopping).

I enjoyed it. It wasn't too much for me to take in at one go. I haven't restarted and doubt I would be. I had the game before that and I didn't really get to know anyone or try to understand it but this one I focused more on getting to know everyone!

I do regret how I rushed getting the game started... I didn't have chance to look at all of the maps and just kept pressing A! I also put too much focus on getting money straight away as well so I stupidly sold a lot of rare fossils. I wish I donated them now as I just keep thinking that the ones I'm missing are all the ones I sold.

I collected seashells for most of it to make money. When I went to Gamestop the worker there said seashells were easy money really early in the game, so I tried that and it was pretty helpful. Each load would bring back 1,000 bells to go to my down payment. Nowadays 1,000 bells isn't a lot, but it was quite useful back then. I also talked to my villagers.. a lot.... they're adorable, how am I supposed to help it?

After all of Isabelles things I went bug and fish hunting for ages and started on all the bits that added to your mayor approval rating to get a head start on the next day. I arranged all the flower in my town so they could breed and shook all my trees/pestered villagers on a furniture hunt. Then I played online with friends who'd got the game a few days early and went to the Island with them.

I know I got my bronze bug collection badge the next day. :P
