What counts as beating a Pokemon game?

Sorry for posting another pokemon thread.I had a talk with my bf about Pokemon. He said if you beat all the gym leaders you win. I said you also have to have all the Pokemon in the pokdex.
We never met anyone who beat the game. It got me thinking about it.

I think beating the champion is beating the game, since the Pokedex is usually a post game thing.

Beating the Elite Four is beating the game for me. After that it's all competitive, with some bits on the side for me

Beating the Elite Four and the Champ is like the 'beating the game' thing imo, but I like the game better when I have a full pok?dex. Makes me proud. *_*

To me, beating the game is beating the champion. Completing the pokedex and other stuff like that is extra

Each game generally has two "beating" levels. The first is completing the main storyline, the second is finding all the side objectives (in this case pokemon). Though for some people the second objective is just visiting all the post-game areas and clearing all post-game content as opposed to "gotta' catch them all".

Basically what the others said. When you beat the elite four and champion that's considered beating the game, although there's other 'extra' things to do.

Yes, it does. I beat them about 2 hours ago.

All Pokemon main games have the elite four

Usually when you beat any game, it follows a scrolling list of credits. That being said, when you beat the Elite Four, you beat the Main Story

There is a post game, but everything from then on out is completely optional.

Technically the whole game is optional, but you're right about the first part, XD.
