What Can Extra Characters Do?

So I just got New Leaf and my friend was really sad because he couldn't be as a Mayor on another save file. What can he do as just a citizen? Improve the town? Talk to villagers? Most of the things I can do just not as a Mayor.

He's just another human in the town. Some people use them to hold patterns and get things early, but really, it's nothing more than that. He can do what the mayor can with the exception of being the mayor or getting the opportunity to build PWPs.

The only point to having other characters is to have more houses to decorate, to have more storage space, to have more pattern space, and to get things sooner (more player characters to talk to Katrina to get her shop, more player characters to talk to Saharah when she visits for more chances to get her exclusive floors/walls, etc).

It's just like past games, you live the normal life of a citizen.

Like everyone else said. I use mine for path pattern storage and regular storage, as well as an additional house to decorate. :3
