In my museum there is a bug that is not listed on the wall plaques. It's in the same display as the ants, underground to the right of their tunnels. It's brown and it does not move nor does there seem to be a tunnel for it to crawl out of. Just a hole it sits in. Anybody know what it is?

no mole cricket is to the left of the ants this one is to the right

That sounds like the mole cricket. That's the one you had to dig up to get. Also, not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but the bugs in the museum behave differently depending upon if it's night or day. Bugs that are quiet in daylight hours will move about at night. There's also a very interesting battle that happens at the giant tree at night!

The mole cricket is on the left of the exhibit. I can see the one you're talking about, it looks like the cicada shell to me... Not sure if it really is though, because it does indeed not show on the signs

Yah, I just looked, it's not the Mole Cricket- that's clearly on the other side and properly labeled.

The other one... it LOOKS like a cicada of some sort, or at least a model of one (since it doesn't move). Cicadas spend a great deal of time underground, a lot of them, so I wonder if it's an exhibit that shows how they look underground?

I took a picture so that we can look at it together. It's the one on the far right :D

Here's another pic of it.

Yah, I think it's supposed to represent a hibernating cicada. It looks a lot like their shells, but I think the shell is displayed with them. But this is an underground exhibit, and really the only one, so it makes sense adding one to it for reference.

A couple of things-- mine is empty, I don't have anything there and I've caught both types of cicada. Two, there are ants climbing out of my exhibit... is that normal?!

definitely not an ant queen, but just noticed the ants are escaping xD
Oh good, it's not just me...

Would it be a termite? I haven't caught one yet so it would make sense that mine would be empty.

Otherwise I would guess cicada nymph because that's what it actually looks like. Are there more than two types of cicada?

weird. i wish they would've labeled it so we'd know. i zoomed the camera on it and it does resemble a cicada shell and also an ant

no termites in the game. just the termite mound from the bug off

so far the creators have been very good with accurate design of the insects, so is definitely not an ant queen or termite as it does not look like those in real life

I checked it out, it is indeed a Cicada Nymph, that is growing underground feeding off the tree's roots.

Just like the deep sea exhibit or some of the other aquarium tanks, the museum displays more and more stuff depending on what you donate.
