So I got a shiny vulpix with the ability flash fire from a trade recently and would like to make it into the best ninetales I possibly can. For the first time ever I am thinking of IV training it. Before I do this, I would like to know if flash fire is the best option, or if I should try finding a shiny vulpix with drought.

Drought is by far the better ability because the chances of anyone using fire attacks on you as a fire type is quite slim, but it is harder to get a shiny drought ninetales.

Thank you for replying. I thought of that too, but do you think it would be worth it to try looking for a shiny vulpix with drought instead of flash fire.

Drought increases fire attacks as well, and reduces the power of opposing water types. It also makes solarbeam instant which is a good move with ninetales.

If you want a competitive shiny ninetales, drought is definitely the way to go. If you are more of a casual player, it doesn't matter so much.
